A/N - The class debate is something that actually happened between me and some dude freshman year.
(Also, I didn't pick the best subject for the debate, but I felt like it fit seeing the reader was basically a mute. I mean it made me mad enough to speak up in a class I hardly spoke in.)
"Our topic for today," Mr. Galloway started, slurring, "might get a bit... Disturbing. But I trust that all of you young ladies and gentlemen will be mature while on the subjects that'll be-"
"Get on with it!" A jock in the back of the room interrupted. I glared back to see Casey had earned high fives from both Ted and Luis. Ted turned his head towards me, shifting in his seat, embarrassed under my hateful glare.
"Anyway," Galloway continued causing me to turn back around, "should the school system ban books with inappropriate content?" He nearly fell into his desk. He was already wasted and it wasn't even noon. Nice.
I felt Teds eyes burning holes into the back of my skull as the discussion continued.
"What, like fifty shades of grey" Luis laughed. That guy has zero intelligence. I would love to push him down the stairs one day.
"Shut up" I heard Ted hiss at him. A small smile crept over my face, I guess I had gotten to him the first outburst.
"No uh Luis. I mean inappropriate subjects. For example, gang violence, drug use, uh sexual assault or even rape." He plopped down in his seat.
I never spoke in class, joining in on these debate, or just to anyone at this school in general. The last thing I need is these cruel ass kids knowing anything about me. I avoided everything and everyone. I doubt if anyone here even knew my name.
"It's just a book. Who cares?" I felt my face burning as I listened to Luis' pure ignorance.
I turned around in my seat to flash a deadly glare at him. Teds eyes widened as he noticed my expression.
"It's just a book? Rape is real and happens everyday. Sexual assault isn't a joke and anyone who has gone through it could be triggered. But who cares right? Who cares if someone has to relive the worse possible moment of their life" I snarled, turning back around before I could make the decision of leaping out of my seat to strangle that asshole or not.
"Who are you?!" Mandy nearly yelled, very rudely, just now removing her eyes from a pocket sized mirror to pay attention.
I turned my head in her direction with a scowl. Before I could say anything, Ted spoke up, "I agree with Y/n. I doubt anybody wants to live their worse nightmare over and over again."
I glanced back at Ted, him looking directly at me already. He knew my name? I smiled lightly as a blush grew darker on my face.
Before anyone else could say anything, the bell sounded through the building. I quickly broke the eye contact, gathering my things and speeding out the door. I felt Teds eyes follow me before he started chasing after me, but I was already gone.
I made it to my dorm room, putting my things in their place before stepping out into the hall. Before I could make it around the corner, I heard Teds voice, "hey Mandy, have you seen Y/n?"
I wonder why he would want to talk to me?
"Who?" Mandy hissed, cocking an eyebrow.
"The girl from English class" he sounded almost desperate.
"Ew no. That's the first time I've even seen her. Why do you want to talk to that freak?" Disgust formed on her face. Oh how I want to choke that bitch.
Ted just huffed, slowly making his way out of the dorm, looking in every direction with hope of finding me. I went out the side door quickly, speeding off towards the front gates, almost getting away unseen.
"Y/n!" I heard him call out for me followed by the sound of him running.
I hurried around the corner, jumping on my bike and pedaling away. Ted was at the front gates shortly after, looking up and down the road in attempt to spot me, which he did.
"I need that" he knocked a nerd off their bike, hurrying in my direction.
His trail stopped after following me onto the beach. I left my bike under the docks, kickstand up. I was hiding behind a post when I heard Ted approach. I thought I had lost him.
"Damn!" He yelled angrily, rubbing the back of his neck in frustration as he threw his bike down, "fucking Houdini!" He whisper/yelled, throwing his hands back down to his sides.
I smiled to myself, creeping up behind him, "I'm surprised you know who Houdini is." I stated, amused. I couldn't hold back my smartass remark any longer.
He jumped at the sound of my voice, quickly turning to face me.
"Why did you run from me?" He questioned immediately. I shrugged my shoulders, what would I possibly say to him? Sorry I don't like human beings?
"What do you want?" I avoided the question, raising an eyebrow.
"I um... I wanted to talk to you" he rubbed the back of his neck again, nervously this time. I cocked my head waiting for him to continue. Of course he just stood there like an idiot.
"About?" I motioned my hand in a short circular motion, as in telling him to continue.
"Why don't you talk to anyone? No one seems to know who you are and you've just... You've really sparked my curiousity." He hesitantly let his words out.
"I like it that way. Anything else?" I started to get annoyed by his stalling.
He scowled for a second at my impatience.
"I really want to get to know you, I mean you actually seem pretty cool. You freaking out on Luis today made me want to know you even more. You're just always so quiet and..." He spoke quickly, making it evident how nervous he was. He's probably the most popular guy in school, yet he's standing in front of me, nervous and stammering.
I smiled a bit, "and?"
"And you're really cute." He gave in, looking directly into my eyes. I instantly blushed, looking at the ground. I rubbed my hands nervously trying to figure out what I wanted to say, but Ted beat me to it.
"So... what do you say?" He took a step closer, taking my hands in his own with a confident smirk creeping onto his face.
"I uh..." I looked up at him, my blush darkening even more,"o-okay." I slowly removed my hands from his.
I scowled as he grinned ear to ear, "don't think that means I'm gonna be your slut. You want to get to know me, do it. But anything further than that will take time."
His face turned completely red, not use to girls standing up to him I suppose.
"You're different," he whispered at the ground, "I like it" he smiled down at me sweetly.
"Wanna go get something to eat?" he held out his hand.
"Sure..." I hesitated, pushing his hand out of the way, walking in front of him.
He stood in place, staring at me, causing me to turn around, "are you coming or are you just gonna stand there looking stupid" I raised an eyebrow. He just grinned, running to catch up with me.
I don't know whether he was sincere or just saw this as a challenge, but one thing was for sure. This would be interesting.
