"Hey Russell" I turned around and closed my book, having felt the giants eyes on me for the past few minutes. I was sitting on the steps in front of the main school building.

"Russ-" he paused for a second, "I came to see you" he quickly corrected himself from using third person.

I smiled, walking down the steps to him, "why?"

"I just... I wanted to see you" he repeated slowly.

I raised a brow, "okay..."

Russell was always straight forward about everything. We'd gotten pretty close after months of tutoring, and in that time I've learned a lot about him. So it was strange of him to hold something back.

He smiled somewhat apologetically, "can we go on walk?"

"Sure" I brushed off his strange behavior and smiled again.

We started walking when I saw Jimmy giving Zoe a box of chocolates and a teddy bear. I grinned at the sight, even if I didn't have someone to call mine on Valentine's Day, it made me happy to see other peoples joy. Besides, I'm spending it with Russell.

"Awh" I nudged Russell to look at them, "look how cute."

"Uhhh," he quickly looked away from the two, "I guess."

This time I just looked at him, confusion evident on my face, "are you okay?"

"I'm fine... Why you think I'm not?" He quickly replied, avoiding eye contact.

"You're just acting different..." I never looked away from him but he was definitely avoiding looking at me.

"Different? No, Russell same." He quickly defended once more, "I mean I..."

"Okay, stop and look at me Russell." I stopped in my tracks, him doing the same.

"Why?" He rubbed his arm nervously.

I gently pushed on his arm, getting him to finally look. He just frowned down at me.

"What is up with you today? And don't say you're fine because I know better. What's going on?" I looked into his eyes with a concerned expression.

"I..." He looked away for a second before meeting my eyes once more with a sigh, "Russell like you. A lot. I want to spend day with you. Valentine's Day." He finished slowly, a blush evident on his cheeks.

My concern quickly turned into a grin as he spoke. I stood on my toes, pulling him down to meet me. I quickly kissed his cheek and pulled away.

"Of course I'll be your valentine Russell! Why didn't you want to ask me before?" I grabbed both his large hands into my own.

"Russell stupid. Why would someone pretty as you say yes?" He had a look of shame on his face.

I removed a hand from his and cupped his cheek, making him look back at me, "you aren't stupid Russell. I'd be stupid to say no." I smiled up at him sweetly.

"You mean it?" He grinned, grabbing my hand to take back into his own.

"Yes, of course I mean it" I wrapped my arms around him, resting my head on his chest. He hesitantly hugged back and kissed my forehead before pulling apart.

We spent the day walking around town and eventually went to the carnival. We weren't even there for an hour because Russell threatened to 'smash' a guy for bumping into me.

Even though the guy apologized, I had to drag Russell away before I witnessed a murder. He did win me a giant teddy bear before his burst of hostility though.

We settled on spending the rest of the night down by the beach, telling each other stories from our lives and joking.

It was an interesting night to say the least. But on the bright side, I got a boyfriend/bodyguard out of everything.
