"Ow! What the fuck is wrong with you man?!" the school mascot whined after Kirby had tripped him.

He just laughed, 'apologizing' before running towards me, "sorry dude. Didn't see you there."

It was late and Ted had made the football team, mascot included, stay to practice longer. His exact words being "what the hell is your problem?! You all suck ass and we gotta win tomorrow night. If any of you leave the field before we get this, I'll make your life a living hell."

I wasn't on the team or anything, Kirby made me come to his practices every once in a while.

I was sitting under the scoreboard, just switching between homework and watching while Kirby was sweating his ass off. Every time he made a good pass, catch or score he'd just look over at me with a dorky grin. I'd just respond by rolling my eyes and smiling.

I scowled as he made his way towards me, "what?" He laughed at my hateful expression.

"Why'd you trip the mascot?"

"Entertainment" he chuckled, taking a seat beside me.

"You're an asshole" I playfully punched his shoulder with a laugh.

"I'll admit, I have a selective taste in entertainment. But that doesn't make me an asshole." He grinned at me.

I looked up at him returning the grin, "yes it does."

"Whatever" he playfully nudged me with his shoulder.

I handed him a bottle of water from my backpack. I always brought a few to his practices, he never asked me to or anything but I felt it was necessary.

"You're a life saver." He downed half the bottle.

I looked up at the sky, noticing the sun was going down, "how much longer is Ted making you guys stay?"

"It shouldn't be too much longer..." We both stared to the sky in silence for a short time.

"Wanna toss the ball?" He asked, picking up the football at his side.

"No thank you" I raised a brow and laughed. He knows I hate football.

"You know I'll beat you" he smirked.

"Cocky much?"

"It's a fact" he sighed "it's why the ladies love me." His dorky grin returned.

"Pffffft" I started laughing near hysterically, "whatever helps you get up in the morning."

"Ouch. My self esteem" he faked a frown. It was silent for a moment after I finished laughing at him.

His smirk soon returned, "it's why you love me." He turned his head to look at me, somewhat hopefully.

I blushed and looked the other way. I did like him but not because of football.

There's always that one person you click with and can't forget them even if you tried. Kirby was that person. We could crack jokes and be together morning to night and not get tired of each others company. I deemed him my best friend but always felt more.

"I knew it. You love me" he teased, attempting to make things less awkward as he grabbed the slingshot out of my backpack and targeted the mascot.

"I never said that" this time I nudged him with my shoulder.

"You didn't have to, I sensed it" the mascot yelped when Kirby hit him in the ass with a small rock.
