Love Hurts

I wandered around for a few minutes just taking in how calm the night was. It was a bit too cold for me but that suddenly changed when Ryan dropped down from a tree ahead of me. 'Hello. What're you doing out this night? You should be asleep.' He kept his hands behind his back and slowly stepped towards me, dead leaves crunching beneath his feet.
'Well I'm not asleep. I was bored so I thought I'd come talk to you.' I spoke firmly, standing my ground. On the inside, I felt like a child watching my parents fight but I knew I couldn't let him get into my head. He took a slow, uneasy steps towards me until our feet barely touched and I could barely see beyond him. 'Y-You don't have to act so intimidating you know...'
'You're afraid.'
'I know that, thank you very much.' I swallowed hard, my heart beginning to spasm inside my chest. I tried my best not to shake as he lifted his hand and dragged it over my forehead, practically pulling the hair away from my face.
'You seem uneasy. How about this, I'll give you ten seconds to start running.' He stepped back.
'What if I don't run?'
'You sound like you want me to kill you.'
'Maybe I want to die.'
'Or maybe you just don't fear death.' Ryan flicked his long, dark hair back and watched me intensely. I tried not to think of Devin at that moment and how much pain he was in from death. I didn't want to suffer the same fate, but I also didn't want to be afraid of it. Against my better judgement, I stated in my place and simply shut my eyes.
'Just make it quick.'
'All this fuss just to talk to me? You know I kill pretty girls like you and steal their souls so why?' I herd quiet steps circle me.
'You fascinate me to such an extent that I feel willing to throw myself into harms way just to speak to you.' The sounds suddenly stopped behind me. There was a moment of silence before I heard something, presumably a knife being slid out of some case. The sound was too familiar and I wasn't surprised when I felt a cold metal press against my throat. Ryan bunched his fingers in my hair and yanked my head back, forcing me to suddenly gasp at the contact.
'Your skin is so soft, (Y/n)...I'd love to wear it...'
'I would agree with you, but I like your skin better.' I could feel Ryan's hand trembling in my hair. The blade pressed further into my skin but I kept myself still. The knife was suddenly removed from its place and I finally opened my eyes. I turned my head to find Ryan crouching on the ground, his hair being tightly gripped by his own murderous hands. 'Weren't you supposed to kill me?'
'I can't...I can't you're too much...You're so distracting. You're so understanding!' He began to shout, his whole body beginning to quake. 'It's-It's so authentic I hate it!' I turned around completely and kneeled in front of Ryan as he began plucking each of his long hairs out individually.
'Did you want to talk?'

We both sat at an old park, me swinging back and forth gracefully and Ryan just quietly collecting himself beside me. I giggled happily, the feeling of cold air on my skin sending adrenaline throughout my body. 'What's the point of taking me to a park if you're not going to swing?' I called, quickly slowing myself until I had stopped completely. Ryan had a dull look on his face, one that was somehow familiar to me. I wasn't sure why, but something about the way he blandly stared at the autumn leaves made me think of those months where I was homeless. I would stare at the drops of rain that would pour from the sky and cause car accidents, slipping and messes. Mothers would shout at their kids for getting the ankles of their pants wet, partners would cry for their loved ones who got crushed in a chunk of metal and people will scream when their bones snap from their slipping and yet the day would go on. I watched it all. I spent so long watching coincidences bring death that I was immune to the heart-ache and that was the exact face that I saw on Ryan. 'What're you thinking about?'
'I'm thinking about a deal I made once to save a girl. It's been so long I can't remember her name but she was beautiful. She and I were childhood friends but when she turned 17, she fell into a seizure induced coma. She was epileptic and very prone to things like muscle spasms, fits and seizures. When we were at school she'd randomly faint and I'd have to carry her to the nurses office. It's funny how as you grow older you can forget the important things whilst remembering the details. But, as I said, one day she fell into a coma. Her parents were going to pull the plug on her until...time stopped. The lights flickered, the people around me stilled and I was met with the face of a demon.' Ryan suddenly lifted his hand, extending his fingers until the wind began to pick up and leaves were plucked off branches by the force. I watched as Ryan played around with his fingers, causing the wind to speed up and slow down. The leaves were being pushed and pulled until they formed a large picture in the air. I was amazed at the sight of Ryan's magic at work. The image was a small, trembling boy standing before, what looked like, the devil. It had large wings and towered over the human boy. 'He told me, "tiny human boy, do you know why she cannot move". I asked why and he replied with, "her soul has been extracted from her body". "You can save her" he said. "She can be yours again" he said.' Ryan twirled his hands like a composer and suddenly, the wind twisted the image. 'I told him that I'd do anything and yet, all he asked of me was my soul. He assured me that he didn't want to take me to hell or any of that, he just told me that I could give my soul to her and she'd wake up. Me, being the idiot I was agreed.' The leaves suddenly went up in flames. They sat in the air in front of us, crumbling to bits from the immense heat and pressure Ryan was forcing on it. 'And stupid me just had to shake his hand! The bastard took my soul right then and there, along with my mortality! I felt it! I felt every organ in my body turn to steel! He imprinted my insides with his curse, one that gave me eternal life! I couldn't breathe! The demon gave my soul to her, that he did but she wasn't her anymore! She became some sort of zombie! You would touch her hand and her bones would crumble to dust! She died the very second she stood up!' He clenched his fist, suddenly putting the fire out before halting the wind. 'I was left incomplete...'
'Ryan, you know what'll happen if you keep taking people's souls right?'
'I know...but I'd rather die complete than live eternally without.' He let his head hang down and his long hair covering his face. 'What about you? Did you ever sell your soul?'
'Not to a devil, but to a man...'
