'Devin hasn't come home yet...I hope he's okay...'
'Don't worry about him...He's on a date, remember?' Chris reminded me, hands curling around my waist as I poured warm blood into two wine glasses for us. I shook him off of me, slowly creeping over to the balcony.
'Open the door for me.'
'Say please.' He teased, crossing his arms over his chest jokingly.
'Please stop being obstinate and open the door for me.'
Chris laughed gently before doing as I asked, stepping over to the balcony and opening the door for me. Being the gentleman he was, he politely let me exit first. I thanked him before sitting down at the small tea table, setting his glass down on the seat opposite of me. He shut the door and sat down, staring out at the city below us. I could deny, he seemed slightly distant. He wasn't acting as stuck-up and egotistical like he usually did. Instead, he seemed like he was thinking so I decided to ask him about it. 'Is something wrong?'
'Huh? Oh, sorry...I was just thinking about something...'
'Tell me.'
'(Y/n)-'
'Just tell me what it is...' I cut him off. He chewed one of his lip rings for a moment before sighing and tapping his index finger against the glass.
'...do you think you'd still love me if I was mortal? If I lost all my powers...if I gave everything up for somebody...would you still love me?'
'Of course I would.'
'But, (Y/n), if I lost all my powers...our contract would be broken. I'd turn back into the scary old man I once was...would you be okay with that? I may even die if I lost my powers...I could turn into a ghost, I...I don't know...' He was clearly distressed, his lips stressfully pressed together and eyebrows showing that of concern. His eyes never met mine, instead focusing on the red liquid that made up our only source of sustenance. I opened my mouth to say something but quickly shut it when I thought about what that would entail.
'Couldn't we bring you back? Like with Devin?' I muttered, holding my glass close to my chest.
'Possibly...but Ryan is the only person with one of those worms...and it holds the spirit of Devin's father...if it got into me, it might...I might end up hurting you...If I came back as a zombie, I'd have to go back to hell to get my powers back...and I don't think I could ever do that...not again...'
'What if I went with you?'
He ignored my question. I wanted to ask again, but without saying anything, he got up and went inside. I was beyond confused, he hadn't told me anything and yet I felt like I had done something wrong. However, moments later, he came back. He held something in his hand but it was so small that I couldn't see it due to it being trapped in his fist. Slowly, he dropped to his knees in front of me. 'Please, (Y/n)...' he barely whispered, looking up and holding out two rings, 'please marry me...solidify everything that you've ever told me...let me know that you were telling the truth every time you said you loved me...' He looked like he was begging, not even getting on one knee but instead kneeling beside me. I stood up, almost dropping my glass due to he shock that was running through me. I placed it down on the table, not trusting my trembling hands to hold the glass. I kneeled in front of him, taking both rings as tears began to collect and pool over my eyelashes. I took his hand, sliding one of them onto his ring finger before doing the same to myself.
'I-I don't...' I started, sniffling, 'I-I don't know what's going to happen...a-and I hate that y-you won't tell me...b-but I'll support you...I-I'll always support you...e-even if you try to kill me...' I huffed, trying my best not to get overly-emotional. Of course, I was too far gone and I wrapped my arms around his neck, leaning against him as I buried my face in the crook of his neck. 'I-I'll love you...even when you g-go...I-I'll say it a million times e-every day...' I raised my hands to the back of his head, curling my fingers in his long raven hair as he shaped his arms around my waist.
'I'm going to free Josh, Ryan, everybody...I'll release the souls of everybody I've ever harmed so they can go to the afterlife...' His grip on me tightened, almost to the point where I couldn't breathe.
'Y-You're a good person, Chris...'
'I am now...because of you...'
