His Tragic Departure

Chris and I stayed up late that night just existing, our hearts beating in sync and our hands never disconnecting. We said everything that came to our heads, not worrying about what the other person would think. His bed was oddly more comfortable than usual, his pillows more plush and the air more thin. 'When I started having feeling for you, I thought about smothering you in your sleep so that the feeling would go away.' He admitted.
'I've kissed all your friends.'
'I had sex with Devin when we were teenagers.'
'My parents tried to contact me while you were gone and I was dating Ricky but I didn't get back to them.'
'I watched you undress a few times back at the circus.'
'I thought Josh looked hot when he was beating me up.'
'Do you have a thing for all my friends?' Chris asked, turning over to face me. I looked back, tapping my ring finger against his as I spoke.
'Yeah. They're all attractive but I only love you. The rest of them are like my guy friends that I sometimes kiss, y'know? Besides Devin.'
'I kind of understand that...Why not Devin?'
'He's like my little brother.'
'(Y/n)! I'm home!' I suddenly heard Devin shout from the front door, causing Chris to suddenly tense up.
'Hey, what's wrong? It's just Devin.'
'I...I know...I...I love you, (Y/n)...I love you so fucking much...' Chris looked like he was about to cry, his face scrunching up and his cheeks burning red before he took a deep breath, sitting up and letting go of my hand. His legs trembled as he crept out of the room, leaving me by myself.
'Chris! Guess what I-'
'Devin...I love you...and I'm so sorry for everything...Please tell Ricky that I'm sorry for neglecting him...tell Ryan that I'm sorry for always entrusting him to take care of everyone...tell Josh...that I'm sorry for ruining him...and take care of (Y/n), okay?'
'C-Chris, w-what're you talking about? What's...'
'...don't blame Vinny...please, it's not his fault...'
I quickly got up from my spot, creeping into the lounge room where I saw Chris holding Devin, his hands trembling. Devin noticed me, but before he could say anything, he was interrupted by the front door swinging open, Vinny stumbling through with wild and crazy eyes.
'And of course! Once again I'm shoved aside to make way for the amazing Chris! He one-ups me again! Good on him!' Vinny screamed, yet his tone made him sound happy. Chris let go of Devin, taking a few steps forward and holding out his hand.
'Please, I'm begging you...don't do this...' Chris muttered, as though it was his last resort to fixing whatever was going to happen. Vinny didn't listen, however, and instead reached behind his back and used his other hand to reach for Chris' hair, tugging it so that he bent down in front of him. Behind his back, he pulled out a large dagger, engraved with strange writing I had never seen before. He pointed it right at Chris' throat, but not piercing his skin. Immediately, I bolted forward to help him but some force threw me back. It was the same kind of force that Vinny used for his mind control, but this time it was far more ragged and it threw me back against the wall, knocking all the air out of my lungs. '(Y/n)!' Chris panicked, shoving Vinny off of him and scrambling to me. I coughed loudly, followed by large gasps of breath as Chris stared down at me, his hands taking mine. 'T-This...wasn't supposed to happen...I-It wasn't...'
'Some fucking treasure you are!' Vinny shouted, creepily marching towards us, his arms hanging limp beside him. 'The great Chris Cerulli! The human boy that murdered his best friend and cursed him to come back as a ghost! Our hero! The man who brutally slaughtered thousands of families and defiled their corpses! The one and only!' Vinny gripped Chris' throat, lifting him up and throwing him across the room. 'The beautiful,' Vinny approached him, 'the talented,' Chris raised his hands, as though asking him to stop, 'the powerful,' Vinny slashed both of his palms, leaving deep wounds that seemed to cause Chris genuine pain, 'the only man to ever pass through the circles of hell, Chris Cerulli!' Vinny waved the blade in front of Chris' eyes, taunting him. 'This blade...has the power to kill any and every creature...even ghosts...and it's power is going to be wasted on a god who fell in love with a girl...' I tried to get to my feet, but the same force was holding me down. I was powerless, watching as the person I loved was being toyed with.
'C-Chris...I-I love...you...' I wheezed, tears welling in my eyes. Chris gave me a week smile before Vinny raised the dagger over his head.
'You don't deserve Devin! You don't deserve any of the love you've gotten!'
I shut my eyes, unable to watch.
I heard a rush of footsteps before a sudden gasp, followed by a cough and subtle whimpers.
'No!' I heard Chris scream. I opened my eyes, gasping at the sight of Devin standing between Vinny and Chris, a cursed dagger hanging from his heart. Devin didn't budge, but his trembling body told everyone that he could feel all of it.
'I-I'm...I-I'm sorry...' Devin smiled weakly before collapsing onto his side.
'N-No...' Vinny whispered, kneeling down beside his beloved and running his hand through his hair. '...w-why...w-why would you...I-I did this for you...'
'E-Everybody...e-everyone...deserves a-a chance...t-to make things right...e-even Chris...' Devin shakily lifted his hand, running it over the tears that were streaming down Vinny's face, '...e-even you...'
The force holding me back suddenly began to weaken, and I managed to crawl across the wooden floors and over to Devin. Chris slid down the wall, tears spilling down his eyes. The front door suddenly swung open, Ricky, Ryan and Josh bursting through but immediately freezing when they realised what had happened. 'D-Devin?' I began to sob quietly, reaching forward and stroking his cold cheek.
'T-This wasn't...it was supposed to be me, you idiot!' Chris yelled, leaning forward and burying his face in Devin's chest. 'D-Don't go...please...d-don't leave me...'
Devin turned his head, noticing the ring on my finger before taking a few deep breaths, trying to hold on for a few more seconds. '(Y-Y/n)? C-Chris? A-Are you...g-getting m-married?' He asked, his breaths beginning to speed up.
'W-We are, Devin...w-we...we are...' I sniffled.
'I-I'm...h-happy...for...you...'
His breathing slowly stopped.
