'This...thing...it keeps following me around.' Ryan uncomfortably stared at Reaper as she tailed behind him, eyes twinkling like stars as he finally turned around to confront the small black cat. He looked mad yet the moment he stared into the kitty's bright eyes he melted into tiny little bits. 'Awh...it's so...ah! It's so cute!' Ryan squealed, reaching forward and picking up the beautiful kitty. He held her close to his chest as I approached him, taking in the sight.
'Her name is Reaper.' I informed him.
'Like Chris?' Ricky asked from behind me.
'I...yeah, like Chris. Where is he, by the way?'
'I don't know. It's just us here and Josh who's sleeping outside...' Ryan answered with a slight disappointment in his tone. I hated it, I hated the mood being so low and especially with Ryan who had never looked so depressed before.
'Ricky, get Josh inside.' I ordered.
'Since when could you-'
'I said get Josh inside!' Ricky immediately bolted to the sliding door that attached to my lounge room before bolting out a yelling.
'Josh get your fat butt inside now!''I don't understand the point of this exercise.'
'We are watching a nice movie together as a family.' I had sat everybody down in the lounge room and put Snow White on before shutting all the blinds and skipping into the kitchen which was conjoined with the lounge room. 'I'm having breakfast, you guys want some?'
'What type blood is it?' Ricky asked.
'A-B negative.' Their jaws practically dropped.
'How'd you get that? That's so rare!' Josh exclaimed happily.
'...can we not talk about it?'
'Alright, alright.' Josh seemed excited, so I opened the fridge and stared down at the blood packs sorted into blood types.
'Fuck...how am I gonna do this?'
'Did you need some help?' Ricky asked, turning around from the couch and standing up once he realised my predicament. He hopped over the couch and approached me, resting his hands on his hips before speaking. 'Do you usually drink it straight from the pack?'
'Yeah. I limit myself to at most- two packs a day so it seemed normal to drink it straight out of them. I never thought about putting them into cups.'
'How about we stop by a shop or something and buy a funnel with a plastic pipe?'
'Good idea. I'll go. I don't want them to cause any trouble.' I sighed, shutting the fridge and pushing past Ricky who was staring at his feet in contemplation. I assumed he was just going to stay there until I stepped to the front door and slipped my shoes on.
'Could I come with you?' I was slightly worried about why he'd ask that, however, I quickly remembered what happened earlier and the apology he begged me to forgive so, I decided to let him come with me. He smiled like a little kid when I agreed and skipped beside me and I left the house. As we stepped through the hardware store, I glazed my eyes over the different things that they had, wondering what I could use. Meanwhile, Ricky paced behind me, struggling not to break the shopping trolley I asked him to push. 'Pushing this trolley is so restricting.' He complained, biting down hard on his spider bites.
'You wanted to come with me so you have to push the trolley.' I sassed, a triumphant alike spreading across my lips as I took in the sight of him grumbling at me. I paused for a moment, noticing the plastic tubing that sat out of place on the red rack that made up the isles. I lifted it off its place and studied it for a second, debating whether it was too long or too wide. 'How's this?'
'It's a bit long. We don't need anything more than a meter.' He leaned against the trolley, crossing his arms on top of the handle.
'We can cut it.'
'Isn't it cheaper to get a shorter one?'
'You're magic, right? Can't you just do that thing where you fool the cashier into thinking we paid?' I asked, remembering how Chris used to do that for me.
'I'm not too good at mind tricks. That's Chris's alleyway. I'm better at physics things, like stabbing people.'
'You are pretty good at that. I can pay for this, it's no problem. I do need some scissors to cut it with, though.' I tilted my head back and groaned loudly at the realisation. I had lost my scissors weeks before all that stuff happened and it was coming back to bite me. 'Do you still have your knives? Can you cut it with that?'
'I left them back at the circus. I'm guessing they're gone now. There's no getting them back.'
'Okay, so we need knives, scissors and a funnel.' I mentally added those things to my list before dropping the plastic tubing into the trolley and beginning to wander out of the isle.
'You don't have to get me more knives, it's fine. I can get Chris to-'
'No, no it's alright. I kinda miss seeing you fiddling with knives. It's a bit nostalgic at this point.''How about these ones?' I asked, lifting up a pretty average-looking dagger with a leather cover over the hilt. Ricky plucked it from between my fingers before balancing the hilt on his index finger. It immediately fell off and he tisked loudly.
'It isn't balanced at the hilt. A good, even dagger is balanced at the midline.'
'Ah, alright. So which ones do you like?' I asked, watching as his eyes scanned over all his options.
'These ones look alright...' He reached forward, taking a longer dagger out and balancing it by the hilt. It didn't fall off and, instead, balanced perfectly. 'And they're even. I'll go with this one.'I felt guilty for thinking it, but Ricky was being really cute. He very subtly growled at everybody who walked by, whilst simultaneously holding all the shopping bags for me. He had his black beanie hanging extra low, almost to the point where it covered his eyes and he hissed every time we stepped out of the shadows and into the sunlight. 'I hate the sun.'
'You act more like a vampire than I do.'
'You're wearing a hoodie, you don't feel it.'
'It's not my fault you're sensitive.' I snickered as he rolled his eyes at me. It wasn't long before we got back to my home although I was surprised to see that there were some new people on my couch. They were all watching Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs silently, making me feel bad when Ryan flinched at the sound of Ricky closing the door behind him.
'Fucking hell, you scared me.' He laughed at himself for a moment before going back to the movie. 'Oh, Devin and Vinny are here by the way.'
'What about Chris?' I asked, looking around.
'I don't know. Devin, do you know where he is?' Ryan deflected the question onto Devin who didn't seem to be paying attention to the movie. Instead, he fiddled with his Rubik's cube.
'...I don't know...'
