'(Y/n), are you busy?' I asked, poking my head into Chris' room and smiling at the sight of her stroking Chris' hair as he slept.
'A little bit,' she whispered, 'what's up?'
'I'm just bored, is all. Everybody out.'
'What about Vinny? You two are close, aren't you?'
'He seemed upset so I thought I'd leave him alone. Do you know where he is?'
'Guest bedroom, most likely.' She answered before going back to petting Chris. He looked so calm and gentle, like a delicate flower. I thanked her, taking a moment to appreciate the two of them before shutting the door and stepping down the hall. I stopped in front of the spare bedroom, knocking on the door before waiting patiently.
'Go away.' Vinny grumbled from behind the door.
'It's Devin...'
'What do you want?'
'I was thinking that we could hang out or something...like a date?'
'You're lying. Why're you really here?'
'I'm...not...' I slowly muttered before sighing loudly and turning my back to the door. 'If you don't want to talk, just say so. I'll go out by myself.' At that moment, the door seemed to swing open fast enough for the force of it to blow a few strands of hair into my eyes. I turned back around, breath hitching at the sight of Vinny. His hair was all over the place, his skin was pale and eyes puffy from crying. 'Are you okay?' I took a step back, slightly frightened by how erratic his breathing was.
'I'm fine...just, uh...I'm fine.' He took a second to calm down, grip on the doorframe loosening until he stood up straight and his arms fell to his sides. 'Where did you want to go?'
'I don't really know. I don't know what people do on dates.'
'You've never been on a date?' He asked, stuffing his hands into his pockets.
'I've been dead for a hundred years.'
'Okay, yeah, I see what you mean. Well, uh...usually people go to the movies or they get dinner at a fancy restaurant...'
'I don't eat and I don't know anything about movies...'
'You don't need to know about movies to see one. What kind of things do you like?' He leaned against the doorframe, eyes scanning my facial expression as I thought for a moment.
'Death, sex, dolls, cannibals-'
'Okay, so movies are a no.' He chuckled to himself softly as I pouted, hating the feeling for being unsure. 'Why don't we just go shopping or something? I wouldn't mind seeing you in something like what you used to wear.'
'What, when you brainwashed me into having sex with people?' I joked, but his once calm expression shifted into a soft frown.
'I'm...sorry about that.'
'No, no, I was just kidding. It's fine. I wouldn't mind going shopping, either, but Chris is the only one with mind-control abilities. How're we going to-'
'Have you really been paying that little attention to me after all this time?' Vinny cut me off, taking a deep breath before mouthing something. I was about to ask what he was saying until I magically began to speak.
'Oh Vinny! You're so beautiful and smart and I love you so, so much!' I spewed out those words as if I had said them myself, almost believing them until something snapped me out of it and I once again had full control of my vocals. 'Oh, wowsers.'
'Wowsers? Really?'
'I'm still familiarising myself with today's human lingo.' I nervously itched the back of my head, taking a few steps back so he had room to leave.
'If that's what makes you happy. Although I do love the way you speak naturally.' Those words caught me off guard slightly. Only Chris knew about that, yet Vinny spoke as if I had told him already.
'...y-you mean my slang, right? C-Cutting off words and all that?'
'No, I mean how you used to talk. Back when you and Chris were kids. You keep speaking like some cheery, optimistic character...but that's not who you are, is it?' I watched, intrigued, as he crept backwards and turned around. He kneeled in front of his bed, taking out the bag he had brought with him and began removing a set of clothes. 'I'm going to go shower. Did you still want to go shopping?'
'U-Uh-hu...' I just stood there, completely stunned by what he had said. Even as he stepped past me, wandering to the bathroom, I couldn't bring myself to move. Something was off.

'(Y/n),' Devin murmured, sneaking into Chris and I's room even though he knew I was busy. I was still sitting in the same place, though Chris had shifted in his spot so that his face was awkwardly buried in my crotch. '...something is wrong.'
'Of course something is wrong.' I replied.
'I mean...I think Vinny read my mind?' Devin sighed, kneeling beside my bed and lifting his hand up and petting Chris' hair as he slept. 'I don't know...something feels off about him...'
'He did say he loves you. Maybe he was just curious?'
'The thing is...he knows about...only Chris knows about how I acted when I was a kid...how I spoke...but he read my mind and told me to start speaking like that...' Devin admitted. I was tempted to ask him about what he meant, but ultimately decided it was best if I didn't.
'Why does it matter?'
'Because no one reads people's mind for no reason! Chris blocks out other people's thoughts, but that's different! I feel...I don't know...invaded? I feel like a living encyclopaedia and he's just browsing my thoughts whenever he wants to...'
'Just ask him not to.' Chris suddenly spoke, shifting so that he was laying on his stomach and peeking up from my lap. 'He's thinking about you right now- about how he'll do anything for you...'
'...you really think that'll work?'
'I'm completely sure. Now get out before I make you.' Devin immediately scrabbled out, knowing that Chris was completely serious about being left alone.
'...Vinny is planning something, isn't he?' I sighed, waiting patently for him to turn around, laying on his back before he replied.
'I think so. He isn't thinking about it and I can't access his memories. He's quite experienced with locking his memories away.'
'You you think it's something personal?'
'...I honestly can't say. He's not letting up. He's currently showering and yet he's not thinking about anything. He's like an empty husk.'
'You kept trying and I'll make you some tea, okay?' I offered, leaning down and pressing a gentle kiss to his lips.
'You're too kind to me...'
'I'm only getting you tea because I want some.'
'I know, but you didn't have to offer to make me some. There's some degree of kindness there.'
'Don't read my mind!' I giggled, shoving his head off my lap and getting up.
'But your mind is like a library where every book is unfortunate. It's quite entertaining.'
'I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that.'

'Vin-Vin!' Devin happily called, taking my hand and dragging me towards another clothing store. 'This place!'
'Calm down, then. I'll get you whatever you want.' I spoke calmly, knowing that Devin was feeling quite unstable and open. He knew I had read his mind, but I already had an excuse ready for when he asked. He planned to ask as soon as we were alone, but I wondered if he'd have the confidence to.
Of course, when he started trying on skirts, I didn't give in him a chance to.
He tried on different outfits, asking me if I liked them every time. I always said yes, and it was always true. As soon as he came out for the third time, however, I had had enough. I stood up, shoving him back into the dressing room and shutting the door behind me. 'U-Um, w-what're you-' I cut him off by pressing our lips together, swallowing his words. He tensed, mind racing with ideas of what to do. However, he eventually relaxed and lifted his hand, running it through my hair.
"Why did he kiss me" he thought, "He actually...what am I feeling?"
After a moment, I pulled away, giving us some room to breathe. 'D-Did you...did you read my mind earlier?' He blurted out, not letting go of the back of my neck.
'I did...I'm sorry, you just seemed so distant...I was afraid that something was wrong.' I lied. Pressing another kiss to his lips. 'You look amazing in this...I'm sorry for suddenly bursting in like this, I just couldn't hold myself back...' I sorted through each of Devin's memory, taking note of every soft spot he had, every kink and liking. I recorded every single phrase that made his knees weak and every touch that sent jolts of excitement into his unbeatung heart. 'I'm sorry for everything I've done...but it was all for you...'
'I-It's o-okay...'
'Do you hate me?'
'No! Not at all! I-I'm just...not used to people...l-loving me...'
'It's okay...I'm not used to falling in love...' My heart melted when his lips curved into a small smile, one that I had only seen when he looked at Chris. Once again, I pressed our lips together, not thinking about anything other than how he tasted like delicious death.
