It's Nice To Know You Love Me

'God, you have no idea how uncomfortable the drive here was!' Josh exclaimed, raising his arms over his head and arching his back until it popped.
'That's because you kept sticking your head out the window and barking.' Ricky shook his head, crossing his arms over his chest and approaching me as I stepped outside to greet them. 'Hey, (Y/n). Are you feeling any better?'
'Much. I guess Chris isn't the only person who gets hyper-emotional. I'm glad it's over now, though.'
'Does that mean you're going to date Chris again?'
'I'm thinking about it. For now, I thought I'd make things up to you since I burnt your arm. I'm sorry about that...' I raised my arm and cupped the back of my neck, rubbing the oddly cold skin.
'It's nothing, honestly. It wasn't even that bad.'
'You're someone who says that even though it was so serious you had to get up and leave. It was bad, Ricky. I hurt you and I'm going to make it up to you. Think of today as your own person Disney love story.'
'Beauty and the Beast?'
'Are you calling me a beast?' I teased, snickering as his face reddened.
'I didn't mean, I-I mean I- u-uh...'
'Smooth, Ricky.' Ryan commented, carrying his bag from the car they probably stole and strolling past us. 'Vinny, could you-'
'Vinny!' Devin suddenly bolted out of the store and practically tackled the gorgeous siren-boy to the ground with a loving, yet lung-crushing, hug. 'I've missed you!' Vinny didn't even get to respond as Devin hopped off of him, then grabbing his collar and yanking to his feet. 'Come possess this girl for me!'
'Let's get away from the soon-to-be mess and I'll show you around the town. Sound good?' I asked, watching as Ricky studied the strange force that Devin and Vinny seemed to have.
'Yeah, sounds good.'

'...so this is all to make Chris jealous?' Ricky sighed, looking over at me with a heartbreaking frown on his face.
'On some level, yes. However, that doesn't mean I'm treating you differently. You're still my boyfriend and this is only going to last for as long as he keeps holding a grudge against you.' I nudged him slightly as we wandered around the city, taking in the sight of fresh new faces.
'Does that mean I can kiss you?' He asked, eyes growing wide with hope.
'You've kissed me before, I don't get why you're asking.'
'You're different now, (Y/n). You used to be tiny, falling into addiction and craving love from anybody. Now, though, you're a real vampire. You're strong. You're only emotionally driven because of Chris, but you don't let it stop you from asserting yourself. You've grown. Though your life is chaos, you make the best of it. That takes a lot.' He paused for a moment, a very obvious internal debate beginning to take place in his head before he continued. 'I think...even though you don't feel the same about me, I'll enjoy being your friend- and I'll move on. I'll grow up, too.'
'That's really mature of you, Ricky. I'm glad you're okay with this.' It was painfully obvious how much it hurt him but he was handling it well and I was slightly surprised by how grown up he was acting. I was proud of him.

'Chris, its fi-'
'It's not fine! It's not fine at all! I don't know where they are! I can't sense her! I can't tell if they're doing anything together or not! I can't! I'm not fine! What if he's-'
'Chris calm the fuck down before I fucking stab Ryan!' I had my fingers knotted in my hair, impatiently pacing back and forth in the hallway, desperately wanting to know where (Y/n) and Ricky were. Devin was trying his best to calm me down and, strangely, it was working. I stopped pacing for a moment, looking over at my brother who was leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. His dead, brown hair was messily tied into a small ponytail, but his hair wasn't long enough for it to be too noticeable. '(Y/n) is fine. If she's just messing with you, she won't fuck him. She's not that much of an arsehole. She loves you.'
'Yeah, yeah but what if-'
'No, shut up. You are going to have a fucking shower and calm your goddamn head.' He was being a lot more forward than he usually was. Devin was usually more cheery than he was acting so, only out of concern, I took a deep breath and asked him if he was okay.
'Are you alright? You seem angry.'
'What? Oh, I'm, uh...I'm fine. Just thinking about some stuff, y'know?'
'What kind of stuff?' I was interested at that point. Devin and I hadn't had a proper conversation in centuries and I slightly missed talking to him. The way his gaze drifted off from mine and locked onto the floor told me that he was concerned for my wellbeing, although I still couldn't tell if it was because of me or if it was something more than that. Though I had the abilities to sort through his memories and thoughts like a filing cabinet, I chose not to and instead waited for him to tell me.
'I've...been thinking about you guys...and I've been wanting to help out with everything that's been going on but I don't know how. (Y/n) has grown up so much and doesn't rely on me anymore...I can't even take care of her while you're away. Everybody else...they don't respect me because I'm a zombie. I didn't want to say it out loud, but it's obviously how they feel...' he finished, quickly standing up straight and eyeing the area to see if anybody else was around. Nobody was around but Vinny, but he still seemed cautious.
'Did you want me to turn you into something else?'
'No, it's not that...I've been dead for hundreds of years and it's difficult adjusting. I'm used to just sitting back and watching and it freaks me out when I remember that I can change things.' Even though I wasn't reading his mind, I could tell that what he told me had been weighing on him for some time. He wasn't wrong, however. During my absence, he tried to help (Y/n) and failed horribly. He was just as clueless as a human, but him being undead made him worse than them.
'If it's any consolation...I think you're better than them.' My words caused his head to shoot up, eyes practically shining like the brightest of stars. His lips curved into a childish smile that I absolutely adored. For a moment, I let my expression soften and smiled back before quickly realising and shaking the dorky grin off of my face. 'B-But I still value (Y/n) over the rest of you idiots!' He let out a small giggle before uncrossing his arms.
'I know, I know.'
