I had died and was reborn. Chris helped me to my feet as I tried to remember how to stand, walk, speak. I looked at Chris and my left eye twitched. 'My love, how do you feel?'
'I-I...cam...c-ca...can...t...' I wheezed and sputtered like an imbecile. Chris's lips curved up into a smile which quickly grew into a kind chuckle.
'You might need a while to remember how to talk but I can assist with that. Would you like to step outside?' I nodded.
Chris quietly led me outside where I marvelled at the blood red moon and crimson stars. The sky itself was pitch black and there was no noise. I could only hear what I wanted to hear. 'Mn...re...red...'
'Yes, well, you see vampires see the world differently to everyone else, (Y/n). Our skies are blood red, theirs are dull and only give subtle hints as to what lies beyond the cosmos. We see it all, my love...' I could only stare at the crimson moon as Chris spoke. I felt like I was seeing the world as it truly was. I was no longer human and it felt glorious. 'Would you like to see your friends? Josh or...even Devin? What would you like?' Without saying a word, I let my legs give out so I sat on the dark green grass and continued to stare at the sky. My lips were slightly parted and my eyes were wide. I couldn't describe the warm sensation I got from seeing the colour red. It was like warm milk gently sliding down my throat and sending heat throughout my entire being.
'M...I-I'm...I'm...' I slowly began to stutter out, a small cloud of mist escaping my lips.
'Yes? You're what?'
'I'm...happy...'Chris gave me two orders; don't leave my tent and don't tell anyone what happened. I quietly sat at the entrance of my tent, still gazing at the moon from the gap between the "door". I could almost sense Devin beside me, his unearthly presence enough to shatter my new state of mind. 'Your eyes are red, (Y/n)... What happened?'
'I...I'm not allowed to tell.'
'I thought so...Chris turned you, huh? He doesn't do that too often. Guess he really does love you.' Devin just watched me as my eyes glowed. I hadn't looked at him yet, I didn't think to. '(Y/n), please look at me...tell me what I look like.'
'Why?'
'Because vampires see things differently from everyone else...I want to know if I look different. Chris wouldn't tell me when he first changed.' His words slithered into my mind and bounced idiotically for a few moments until what he said really hit me.
'But I...thought you said...Chris wasn't a-'
'He used to be...the way to become an Illusionist is to pass through the circles of hell and emerge unharmed. Only vampires can make such a transition...Chris did it without even trying. The only other person to try it was Ash and she...she wasn't the same...she got to wrath and just...it was...' Devin trailed off, the memory somehow taking over his speech and mind. I still didn't look at him, even as he shifted in his spot and took a moment to regain himself. 'She got half of her skull ripped off by a centaur. She felt every part of herself get crushed and deformed until she was forced out of hell and back here. It was...gruesome, to say the least. Not a good conversation topic, if I may add.'
'I don't think I'd like to go through that...'
'No one would. But, if you don't mind, I'd like to change the subject. It makes me a bit queasy.'
'Ghosts can feel?'
'Barely. However, now that you're a vampire we can touch. Your spirit has been granted power and now I can touch you.' At that second, Devin placed his index finger on my cheek and quietly mumbled "boop". I ripped my eyes away from the bloody moon and gazed at Devin. To my surprise, his neck was split open, droplets of dry blood sticking to his nonexistent skin. I didn't show my surprise but instead brushed it off, knowing full well it'd make him upset if he knew his neck was split open.
'Did you just boop me?'
'I thought that's what your generation liked.'
