Chapter 31:

Maddie's POV:

I managed to get to my wobbly feet and make my way back to the clearing. I fell into shrubs and bushes, various trees and plants but finally got there, the gun in my hand.

"Maddie!" RayAnne ran up to me and hugged me.

"I'm fine." I mumbled, stalking past her.

"Your looks beg to differ." She looked at me worriedly.

"Harry is dead." I turned to look at her. "We fought and I killed him."

"That's... Good?" RayAnne searched for the right words.

"Yea. It is actually." I nodded and gave a weak smile. "Where is Renee?"

"Oh yes." RayAnne looked at me hesitantly. "She's with Niall."

I'd completely forgotten Harry shot him!

"Is he alright?" I asked.

Rayanne just shook her head and told me to follow her.

Niall was still laying in the same spot where he'd been shot and Renee and Gabby were crouched over him, applying pressure to his bullet wound.

Tia and Jill were dragging Liam's body next to Zayn's.

"What in the hell happened to you!?" Tia exclaimed.

"I'll tell you later." I hobbled over to Niall and the girls and sat down.

"He's hardly breathing." Gabby reported. "The bullet cut off an arterie."

All of a sudden, Niall's eyes flickered open halfway.

"Niall." I said, relieved. "I am so sorry all of this happened. I was wrong."

"It's fine." He managed to say. "I forgive you. None of this was your fault."

He then turned to look at Renee.

Renee's POV:

Niall looked at me, his green eyes still bright as ever.

"I'm sorry I said what I said." He choked out. "I don't mean it."

"It's okay Niall."

He reached up weakly and brushed my cheek with his hand. "You're so beautiful. I can't believe this is goodbye."

"What!?" I exclaimed. "You're going to be okay. Gabby, tell him!"

Gabby just stood up and shook her head. "I've done all I can for him."

I looked back at Niall frantically. "Just hold on." I felt tears burn in my eyes and roll down my cheeks. He brushed them away with his thumb.

"You'll have to go on without me." He sighed sadly.

"Don't talk like that!" I took his hand from my face and cradled it In my arms. "You're going to make it!"

I glanced at Maddie and saw her head bowed in silence. She didn't return my glance.

"Let me go." Niall smiled.

"No." I gasped through tears. "I love you."

"I love you too." He smiled. "But this is where we part ways. Not for good. I'll always be with you."

By now, everyone was gathered around, staring down at us. It made me flustered.

"Goodbye my love." Niall said through gritted teeth.

"Goodbye makes it sound so permanent." I mumbled just loud enough for him to hear.

"We'll meet again. Maybe in another time." He grinned that goofy grin.

I began to look away when he called me back, "Oh, and Renee."

"Yes?" I looked down, my mascara running down my face.

"Do me a favor and don't fall into the river again."

I laughed a tiny bit, "I won't."

"Good." He closed his eyes and stilled, falling limp.
