"Are you coming to dinner Friday night?" Jun Ho asks me as we walk towards his waiting chauffeur.
I had been in high spirits since lunch. And this sudden realization sent them back down. With all that had happened the last couple of days I had forgotten I was going to have dinner with my father's family.
I give him a weak smile. "Y-Yeah. Since Ahjussi invited me, I can't refuse."
I actually quite enjoyed my father's company. I especially enjoyed it when he would tell me old stories of my mother. And Jun Ho was someone I could have a nice conversation with.
If it was just dinner with them two, I wouldn't be feeling so distressed. But it was no secret that Jun Ho's mother did not like me. In the two times I had met her, she did not falter in finding any flaws to make me feel bad about myself. She would look down on me, as if I wasn't worth being on this planet. I hated the look she gave me.
She was the classic evil stepmother. Which is why I didn't understand how my father could have gone from my mother to her. My mother was beautiful, and from the stories I had heard, she was free-spirited, wild, and amazing.
"Like a dazzling star. No matter how far I reached, she was always too far."
That's how he had described her. And it was why he had fallen in love with her. I smile, recalling what my father had told me.
"Alright, I'll see you tomorrow." Jun Ho says and gets into the car.
I wave goodbye and continue down the sidewalk in the opposite direction he was going. My new school was farther, so it required me to take the subway.
My ride on the subway is relatively short. I get off and the walk home is less than ten minutes. It was already late and the sub was long gone. I wasn't usually a paranoid person, but I couldn't help but feel as if I was being followed.
I decide to ignore it but I quicken my pace without noticing. I almost shriek when I feel a tap on my shoulder but a hand covers my mouth.
"It's me." The person whispers.
I'm about to bite the person's hand when I recognize the voice.
"J-Jin?" I ask, my voice trembling.
He removes his hand and spins me around. I come to face the familiar tall, broad shouldered boy who had come to be my friend. And I felt the urge to punch him for scaring me like that but I resist it.
"Do you usually follow teenage girls home at night?" I ask him sarcastically.
"Only you."
This time I do hit him.
"What is your problem? Next time I'm calling the police and reporting you on your fan page."
He gasps. "You wouldn't."
I shake my head. "What are you doing here at this hour?"
Seok Jin smiles. "I came to see my favorite seventeen year old."
"Are you sure you're not trying to kill her?"
He chuckles. "I kind of miss the old Eun Kyung who would never talk back and would always stutter."
"Oppa, you're a pervert."
He scoffs and feigns hurt.. "Why are you saying that?"
"You just admitted that you like the submissive type."
He gasps. "What have they done to you? Have you been hanging around Nam Joon and Yoon Gi?"
"What?"
