He wished that his pet would be able to hunt for food as he did before and for one of his inventions to solve his family's money problem.

"I wish to go to the festival," Evie muttered to herself, as she was preparing for dinner in the messy kitchen.
"You wish to go to the festival?" She turned to see her stepmother, Grimhilde, and her stepsisters, Ursula and Gothel, entering the kitchen.
"The King's festival?" Her stepsisters said together in union.
"Look at your hair, look at your dress," Ursula told her.
"People would laugh at you," Gothel said after.
"Yet you still want to go to the festival and dance among the prince?"
Her stepfamily laughed as Evie looked at them with a frown. She saw that she was nothing like a princess.
The three were beautiful of face but vile and black of heart.
