Chapter 11- Back Into the Woods

Once upon a time... later, as they make their way back into the woods, all of their familiar paths were nowhere to be found. And their lives were about to take an unexpected turn.

Ben and Mal tried to find the path that led to their home, everything looked destroyed and misty. Both were confused on what was happening. They continued to walk and found Jane sitting on a log.

"Hello Jane," Mal said. She turned, almost taking out her weapon but put it back in her pocket.

"Hello, Mal and Ben."

"What are you doing here, with a suitcase?"

"I am moving in with my granny. When I made it back to my village, it was completely destroyed. I could find my mother anywhere. Now I can't find my Granny's home."

"I'm sorry."

"I then could find the right path. Where is she? Where's Granny?" She asked desperately.

"It's okay. We'll help you find her without the path." They got up and continued walking, but Mal kept shaking her hands.

"What are you doing with your hands?" Jane asked.

"Ever since I broke the curse, I have been trouble controlling my magic."

She clasped her hands together, which wasn't the best idea. A giant glowed of magic was glowing, so Jane and Ben quickly took cover. The magic blasted into some broken trees, which revealed the Steward and the Royal Family.

"Was that you?" The steward asked.

"Yes. My apologies. I'm Mal, this is Ben and Jane." She said.

"Is that your real name?" Grimhilde asked.

"I was wondering the same thing," Jane said in agreement.

"Back to what I was saying," She said ignoring the subject again. "What bring you into the woods?"

"The Royal Quarters have been destroyed." The steward explained.

"No," Grimhilde said while helping her daughters. "The kingdom is under attack."

"What are you going to do now?"

"How should I know?" He responded. "I don't make the royal policies, I just carry them out."

"I think it's best," Ben said, "if we go back to the village and take Jane with us until things get sorted out."

They were about to leave when another rumble occurred. They all began to panic as trees began to fall. They fall to the ground and slowly looked up. Ben and Mal were the first to see a giant foot walking towards them. When they looked to see what it was, it was a giant woman. Maleficent, who happened to be flying nearby, landed beside them.

"Where is the boy who killed my husband?" The giant woman roared out.

"We haven't seen him," Ben yelled out, so she can hear him.

"We'll get him for you," Maleficent said while flying upward.

"It was you who destroyed my home," Jane yelled out furiously while taking out her knife,. "Not an earthquake!"

"I want him!"

"Would you like a blind girl instead?" Maleficent said while grabbing onto Gothel and flew up to the Giant's eyes. Gothel screamed, but the Giant wasn't interested

"I told you I want the boy!" Maleficent flew down and landed back to the group. They then all heard a woman calling out for someone.

"Carlos!" Cruella called out. She saw the group of strangers and ran to them. "Excuse me but have any of you seen my son?"

The steward quickly shushed her and pointed to the Giant Woman. "She looking for him too."

"Give him to me!" She commanded. She swung her hand at them nearly crushing them all.

"Carlos is just a boy." Cruella explained, "We had little food to eat, so he sold his dog in exchange-"

"The boy! I want the boy!" The Giant continued to roar out.

"You leave my son alone!"

"I'm waiting!" The giant commanded while stomping her foot, which causes another rumble throughout the land.

"Be quiet, woman!" The steward told her. "Or you'll get us all killed!"

"You terrorized our kingdom-" Cruella yelled out but Maleficent tried to get her to be quiet. Cruella broke out of her grasp and continued yelling at the giant. "Destroying everything in your path! I'm going to get my boy first, and hide him from you! You'll never ever, ever-"

"Enough!" 'The steward said while roughly pushing her aside. "The boy is hiding east in some large trees."

"Yes, we saw him there," The blind Ursula said.

"But we can't see anything," Her sister said, only to be shushed by her mother.

"And if he's not, I'll return and find you." The giant then left her footsteps creating more destruction throughout the kingdom. "All of you."

All fell to the ground again but got up as soon as she left. Mal looked at Cruella and saw her slow breathing.

"What did you do to her?" She asked the steward.

"Nothing." He responded, "I just did the greater good."

"If we're going to get through this, we'll need to stick together," Ben said.

"Some people are cut out to battle giants," Grimhilde said, catching her breath. "other are not. As long as I'm no help, I'm going to hide. Everything will work out fine in the end."

"Now always." Maleficent said."The Giant already destroyed the entire village." The Royal Family and steward ignored her and left them alone.

"What are we going to do now?" Jane asked.

"We have no choice. Find the boy and give her what she wants."

"But if we do, she'll kill Carlos!"

"If we don't, she'll kill the entire kingdom."

Maleficent flew away as they watched. Ben and Mal tried to help Cruella, but she couldn't get up.

"We must not let her get Carlos." She said weakly.

"We promise she won't."

Ben and Mal watched Cruella slowly lose her strength and let her rest. They all knew she wasn't going to survive, but they stayed with her until she passed on.

Mal, Ben, and Jane knew they had to figure something out, to save Carlos from the giant. This was nothing like the happy ending they'd hoped for.
