Chapter 14

".... Wake her?" I hear someone say. Damn my head hurts. Suddenly everything comes rushing back to me. I jerk fully awake.

"What day is it? Hurry we have to get Kelly!" I shout pulling on my restraints. I glance around looking for an escape and I see Summer and Ian also in chains. I feel drained. I look up at my wrists being held above my head by silver cuffs and chains. Shit.

"We're too late Scarlet" Summer says quietly before she brakes down. I watch her cry as I let the words sink in.

"What do you mean it's too late? It can't be too late we have to save her!" I yell going into hysterics.

"Calm down shouting won't get your sister back" Ian says calmly.

"We have to save her" I say determined. I concentrate on the moist air around me. I try my hardest to get her a ball of water. I ignore everyone telling me to stop and I hold concentration as best as I can. I open my eyes when I feel my nose start to bleed. Crap! I haven't used my powers in almost a year so I'm a little rusty.

"Scarlet it's no use trying anything. Kelly's gone. She's not dead don't worry but she's too far gone to come back with us. She's changed" Ian says.

"No she's still Kelly and as long as she's alive I will get her back! She is still the Kelly that first came to our Clan when Summer was bitten it's just buried under a lot of sadness" I say sadly. I look up with determination in my eyes. "I will save Kelly if it's the last thing I do!"

"It might be" I hear Summer mutter under her breath as I close my eyes to try again. I think back to the time where Kelly and I are practising our powers.

I tried my hardest using the way the teacher taught us. I sigh when Kelly tells me to stop. I look down in defeat and I let myself deflate. I felt a sudden wind on my sweat soaked skin. I looked up and saw Kelly holding the leaves perfectly in the air.

"Try asking the element for help instead of just commanding it" she suggested. I nod and close my eyes.

'Umm wind could you help me lift the leaves in the air?" I asked the wind silently. I felt a cool breeze almost like the wind was agreeing with me. I try again sending my arms out towards the leaves and then I slowly moved them upwards and the leaves agreed and moved with me.

That's it! I take a deep breath. I can do this. 'Okay water I know I never mastered you but I need your help" just as I feel a cold wave wash over me my concentration is broken. I look up and glare at the person who has walked through the glass door. I let my hair fall in front of my face as I stare down the skinny blond girl. She places a tray of food beside Summer and then Ian. Her small frame looks like she's going to snap in half as she bends down. As she places the last tray of food in front of me i study her face carefully in case I need to remember it for a later use. I watch her empty chocolate brown eyes stare forward not looking at anything. This girl has bruises and cuts all over her body and is clothed in an old looking t-shirt that probably used to look good. Now the shirt has faded to an ugly yellow and is stained with blood and sweat. She turns and leaves without saying a thing. I hear a click and Summer is freed from her shackles.

"Finally I was staving" she says as she digs in. Ian turns to me.

"You didn't notice did you?" he asks.

"Notice what?" I ask him back.

"That girl" he says sighing.

"What about her?" I ask him quickly.

"You know her" he says slowly.

"Is that..." I can't bring myself to say it. Please don't let it be. He nods and I scream. I block out everything in another attempt to get out. This time I manage to form a small ball of water but as I go to freeze it, it drops. I try again and by now Ian has started eating and Summer is back in her shackles. when my arms are finally freed I wipe the blood from my nose away and pick up the food. I glance at Summer and she's fast asleep.
