Summer

I watch as my child runs up to me. I smile and pat his head. He's already a natural.

"Mommy did you see what I did?" he asks.

"Yes I did. Very good job" I say and he runs off. He begins whacking the dummies with his staff again.

"You must be proud of that one" one of the other mothers says.

"I am" I say as I watch him.

"Pity the other one just reads, he must be a disgrace to you" another one says as she comes up beside the first one.

"Actually I am most proud of that one, he reads and can beat the crap out of your kid" I say.

"Really now?" she says.

"Yup" I say popping the 'p'.

"I call a duel, you child against mine" she calls. Her kid comes running.

"Who am I beating this time mommy?" he asks. She points to sitting in the middle of the room. The kid nods and runs over with his staff held high. As the kid goes to slam the staff down on he rolls out of the way and closes my book. He jumps and tackles the poor little kid to the ground.

I look at the other mother and then back to the kids. Is sitting on top of the other kid reading his book balanced perfectly on the staff. I can't wait to see him protecting his mate like that.

"You ready to go?" I hear someone say behind me. I turn and give him a kiss.

"Yup, just let me say goodbye one last time" I say as I pull out of his grasp.

"Relax, just because Kelly doesn't like kids doesn't mean she'll kill them" Ian reassures.

"I know they're in good hands but I'm still worried, I can't help it" I say. Kelly walks towards us smiling nervously.

"Everything will be fine Summer. I'm not going to let them kill anyone or kill them myself, don't worry" she says.

"Okay, I'll go with you" I say in defeat. We walk out of the hall and I turn back to see Kelly and Arura waving us goodbye.

"Have an awesome anniversary dinner!" Arura calls. I roll my eyes and turn back to Ian as we walk into town for dinner.
