Chapter 10

Summer

Something hits me.  I can suddenly almost feel where Seth is.  I start to follow it.  I know Kelly would have done the same for me so it’s my duty to do this for her.  I manage to make it too the parking lot.  I shift into my cat form.  I’m glad I didn’t pack anything.  This form doesn’t really run that fast.  I stop and shift back.  I run in my human form faster, almost as fast as my wolf.  I know it’s going to take me a few days to round him up.  My gut steers me where I should be going before my nose picks anything up.  I decide to follow it straight instead of following the clues and tracks.  It leads me back though the village and northwest.  I come to the border and take a deep breath.  He’s obviously been hanging around here.  I suddenly hear a mournful howl come from just north of here.  The feeling tells me to go towards the howl.  I howl in reply and a third one rings out.  It sounds different then the first one or mine.  I break out into a run.  I run as fast as I can.  I stop only when I emerge from the underbrush at the cliff.  I look over the edge and see Kelly’s wolf surrounded by humans and is that Conal?

“At first I didn’t know what was happening but then I traced your aura back here I knew you were spying you little whore” he says.  He smacks her.  I feel the anger grow inside me.  He pulls something out of his back pocket.

“Your friends aren’t here to save you this time bitch” he says.  He stabs Kelly and she drops to the ground.  I watch as they move in to tie her up. 

I hear a growl tear itself from the tree line.  A back and red wolf launched from the bushes.  I watch as the strange patterned wolf attacks the humans.  It tears most of them to shreds in seconds.  I watch as Conal Shifts.  His would reminds me of Kelly’s the way the silver gleams on his back, but also of Arura’s wolf the way the pure black fur is like looking at the night sky.  I snap out of my trance when I hear him howl.  The strange wolf leaps forth and lands on Conal’s back.  Conal throws him off and jumps onto the wolf, out of nowhere three ATV’s fly out of the tree line.  Conal holds the wolf down as a few humans drag Kelly’s wolf onto the back of the first one.  Conal snaps at the wolf’s neck.  I watch as the wolf goes limp under Conal.  He gets off the wolf and hops on the back of one of the ATV’s and they drive off. 

I debate on it and decide to climb down the cliff.  I swing my legs over and find a foot hold.  I grab a stone and I slowly work my way down the forty foot drop.  I jump the last ten and land on my feet, like any cat would.  I walk over to the wolf lying there in a pool of blood.  By now the gash should have healed over on a Shifter.  I roll the wolf over and something seems familiar.  I look around and find a few leaves, some vine and a large spider’s web.  I bring them back to the wolf and start to bandage up the bite wound.  For some reason I feel like I can trust him.  I gently start to prod and poke at him.  He groans and rolls over.  I poke him again and he growls. 

“Fuck off” the wolf says.  Shifters can’t do that without extensive training or are just special like Kelly. 

“You’re not a Shifter are you?” I ask him.  He opens his eyes and looks at me.  I stare at him in awe. “Seth” I whisper.

“Yes I’m Seth, no I’m not a Shifter nor am I going back with you to the Clan” he says.  He stands and wonders off ignoring the bandage. 

“If you want nothing to do with the Clan then why did you try to save Kelly?” I call to him. 

“Because she may have rejected me but that doesn’t stop my feelings for her it just stops her having them for me” he says.  He hesitated long enough talking for me to grab him.  I use the vine as a lasso and rope him like a cow.  He struggles but he’s not getting out.
