All I really remembered after the deafening sound was falling to the ground, my head smacking against the concrete.

I blacked out for a moment, maybe it was just a second, maybe a few minutes, but when I regained consciousness, Blake was nowhere to be seen. I propped myself up on my hands and looked around frantically. Luckily, I noticed he hadn't been thrown off the balcony rail that was partially blown open. The glass doors laid shattered and in two pieces hanging off the side of the wall by a thread, allowing for the screams inside to drift out.

"Are you ok?" I felt a gloved hand on my shoulder and looked up at Sonic.

"I'm fine." I said as he helped me up. "Have you seen Blake-"

"Behind me!" He yelled.

I jumped into his chest as a machine gun open fired on us, his arms wrapped tightly around me. Luckily, I was out of the gun's range because Sonic was in my way, taking the bullets in his bulletproof, Kevlar suit and cape.

Once the gunman was out of ammo and forced to reload, Sonic dove into his stomach, knocking him to the ground and the gun off the balcony.

"Aubrey has a present for you," Sonic grunted as he restrained the gunman. "Behind the east stairwell."

I thought I told them I was off duty tonight.

I ran into the banquet hall, trying to locate the east stairwell and Blake at the same time. The west wall had blown up, a gaping hole in place of the lounge area that resided there before. Fortunately, I don't think too many people were sitting there at the time of the explosion.

Men in black masks were running around detaining people, usually threatening large groups with guns and for the most distinguished looking people, tying them up and gagging them.

This was a hostage situation.

There was no time for Blake at the moment, I had to find Aubrey.

As I started to make my way towards a stairwell, a masked man jumped in my way with a knife.

"You get over there with the rest of 'em," he said in a gruff voice. "Nice and easy, and you won't get hurt."

"I don't do nice and easy." I said back, grabbing the arm with the knife in it and twisting until I heard a small crack and the assailant let out a scream. The knife clattered to the floor and I took it, about to turn and threaten him for information, but seeing his armed comrades around me made me see that I didn't have the time.

I made it to the stairwell and was pleased to find a small bag with my suit in it underneath. I snuck into a bathroom without being seen and quickly changed out of the scratchy dress and into the comfortable spandex, letting out a relieved sigh. Before I was finished, I was sure to put in a green colored contact into my right eye. There weren't too many people with two different colored eyes in this city and working with my natural eyes would be a dead giveaway to my identity.

I tossed the tattered dress into the trash before running out into the open, shooting some of the closest masked enemies with electricity while I examined my surroundings. One of them snuck up behind me and held a gun to my head.

In one swift move, I slipped out from under his grasp and kicked the gun from his hand before punching him in the nose. Chills rushed up my arm when my fist made contact with his face and I was taken aback for a moment.

Once he had fallen to the ground, I noticed that the nose was cut out of the ski mask, exposing purplish black skin on the tip of his nose, like he had frostbite. I also noticed that the mask was coated in a light layer of stark frost. Looking up, I realized all of the gunmen had this on their masks and nose.
