I flew out of bed and grabbed the baseball bat I kept under my bed, adrenaline racing through my veins like a bullet train.

I know what you're thinking, I have a lethal super suit in my wardrobe and a baseball bat wouldn't do crap if they had a gun, but I couldn't risk being caught. Madisyn's life had to be Voltage free, so unfortunately that means I can't use it to fight off intruders or bring it to Black Friday shopping.

I tiptoed slowly out of my room, the bat raised high above my head. A loud thump sounded from the living room and my heart picked up the pace though my walk stayed steady. I crept carefully through the kitchen, peeking my head into the living room.

Two people, a girl and a boy probably not much older than 17, balanced my flat screen TV in their leather gloved fingers, clad in dark jeans and black hoodies. They whispered to each other not too discreetly as they maneuvered the TV to fit through the doorway.

The guy saw me standing there and his eyes grew wide, partly in fear, partly in shock. He dropped his end of the TV suddenly and the girl cursed.

"Shit, Thomas!" She seethed. "What was that for?"

His hand moved quickly to his waistband and he pulled out a gun, aiming it at my heart. "Don't move or I'll shoot."

I dropped the bat and put my arms up in surrender. "P-Please, I don't want any trouble."

He stalked towards me and pressed it against my chest. I noticed that he was at least three inches shorter than me and I could take him down before he had a chance to pull the trigger on the gun that wasn't even loaded.

It must've been their first time stealing because there were so many things that could go wrong right here. First of all, you never bring a fake weapon/ weapon that isn't loaded, there is too much room for error. Secondly, they chose the worst time, it was a little after eight thirty when most people were either vegging in front of the TV or having sex. A better time to rob someone was at one am or during the day when they were at work. I knew this too well because of the three a.m. wake up calls and stupid work excuses I have made to stop bozos like these guys from taking crap that isn't theirs. Third, you never say yours or your accomplice's name, that would be a gimme for cops. Lastly, they were extremely loud and came in right through the front door. Sometimes, I just feel bad for them.

I could easily take both of these kids without batting an eyelash, but seeing as there was no immediate threat and the teenagers would go crying to the cops if I pulled out my judo moves on them, I decided just to play victim. It was the safest bet.

"Now, you're going to show me your nice jewelry collection and I'm going to leave, and you're not going to tell anyone we were here or else I'm going to come back and shoot you. Got it?" The empty threats were another no-no for robberies, don't say it unless you mean it.

I nodded my head.

He took me roughly by the shoulder and turned me around, pressing the empty gun into my back.

"Walk." He demanded.

I did what he said and led him right into Aubrey's room, praying that they had paused their sex to maybe call the cops or even had the decency to put some clothes on.

Luckily, to my surprise, the latter was true.

I walked in the door and found only a messy bed with no people in it. I was confused for a moment, looking around for Aubrey and Logan in the seemingly vacant room.

"Now show me where the jewelry box is-" Before he could finish, I heard the smack of a fist hitting the theif's face and the pressure of the gun was removed from my back.
