Jason brought me up to speed on everything that had happened since I was asleep, something that was a bit overwhelming for me.
City Hall had been relocated until it was fully repaired, and most of the employees there were safe during the attack so it was back in session again, with the absence of a mayor.
That being said, the city hasn't released the fact that Blake is dead yet. They're waiting until they have a mayor to announce so that the town doesn't erupt in chaos again.
The death count was a staggering one hundred forty two, with around two hundred wounded. Jason says that I'm lucky I got one roommate, some rooms were tripling up.
He had been released a few days ago with very minor injuries. Surprisingly, his heart handled the stress very well and it made his full recovery chances skyrocket, which was a silver lining that came out of the mess.
He didn't bring it up, but I knew he was wondering about Aubrey, but I wasn't ready to tell him yet. I didn't even know how I was going to. I was still struggling to accept it myself.
"What about you? Where were you? What happened?" He asked.
I took a deep breath, looking down at my red skin. "Bad things," I replied. "The worse thing I have ever experienced."
"Logan said you got home, went outside for a minute, then you were gone."
"Blake got me," I stammered, his name feeling heavy on my tongue. "He tried to turn me to his army and-" I closed my eyes and felt the white hot pain emanating over my body again. "I'm lucky to be alive."
"This is my fault," He shook his head. "I should have sent security home with you-"
"No, Jason, don't say that," I reached out and touched his hand. "You couldn't have known."
He looked down at our hands. "I'm just glad you're okay."
"Where is Logan?" I asked, putting down the spoon to the pudding they had given me a few minutes ago.
His face turned solemn and he looked down at his hands.
"Jason, where is Logan?" I repeated, my voice wavering. "Is he here?"
He looked up at me and nodded. "I think you should wait-"
"I want to see him." I crossed my arms. "Now, Jason. I don't care."
He sighed. "Madi, it's not pretty."
"I don't give two shits." I glanced to the corner and saw a wheelchair. "Come on, let's go."
He sighed and shook his head.
The nurses cleared us to go and soon, I had my weak body sitting in a wheelchair as we went slowly down the quiet hallways. To think, this hallway was filled with bloody patients and screaming families just a few days ago. It was kind of scary.
We finally came to an open door, and Jason stopped.
"What are you doing?" I groaned.
"You're sure?"
I glared back at him. "I handled you half dead with a tube down your throat. I think I can handle this."
He took a deep breath, then pushed me through.
"Mr. Pierce, you should eat something."
"I'm not hungry."
Seeing him felt like a truck had been slammed into my chest.
I forgot.
I totally forgot.
He didn't have an arm.
