Chapter 43: A Warm Feeling

"Hey you're awake...." He kissed her as she moved sleepily under the covers. Smiling and looking at her two baby girls.

"Come here..." Her voice was low and caring, and Aaron smiled down at his family.

"You too Daddy...." She wrapped her arms around all of them...

He awoke with a start next to his still unconscious wife. She had improved greatly, but she still hadn't woken up.

It had been three days.

"Please wake up, we want to see you.... Please get up." His voice cracked, from just getting up and almost crying. She was right with him, but he missed her so much.

"Aphmau.... Please..... I miss you." He laid his hand on hers, it was warm. She was just asleep, he wanted her to hear him so badly.

"Por favor Aphmau te amo, te necesito aquí conmigo, no puedo hacer esto solo, por favor...."

Still nothing.

The girls were asleep. Aurora was asleep next to her mother and the baby was on his chest. He hadn't named her yet, he wanted to do that as a family.

He saw Aphmau's hand twitch, and a great outtake of breath. And she very slowly opened her eyes, her pain gone and a smile on her face.

She wasn't confused, she had heard everything. Aaron crying himself to sleep every night for the past three days. Him getting up to feed the girls, him praying to god for mercy for his family.

Aaron hadn't noticed this, he had started crying again, but at the same time smiling and caressing the back of the baby's head.

"A-Aaron?" She could only speak a little, she had lost the ability to walk at the moment. But she wanted to see their baby.

"Aphmau? Oh, Aph!" He held the baby in his hands and gently gave it to her. She smiled broadly and moved some hair out of the baby's face.

"Hey... I'm your Mamá, how are you little one?" Her voice was forced, and a second later she coughed. And handed the baby back to Aaron.

"Please... water...." Aaron gently laid the baby back into the bed, and went to get some water. Although relieved that Aphmau was awake, she now had to slowly recover.

We went to the water pump, and then heard a moan from behind him. It made his hair stand on end as he looked behind him.

Several ghouls where behind him, and they were quickly advancing. Having nothing but his boxers on Aaron quickly whistled, and Luna and Impact came running.

Aaron reached inside he boxers and found his handgun, he had put it there in case of intruders while he was sleeping.

He took aim and killed two at once, having to reload, Impact and Luna took two down, leaving two left.

One was a little girl, her blonde hair falling out and she was limping.

Aaron froze, he normally wouldn't think twice but, he couldn't bring himself to shoot her, even if that little girl was long gone.

He turned to the other ghouls and shot twice, they fell to the ground in a heap. But then he turned on the girl again.

She growled and lept at him, and out of instinct he shot, and saw the red blood pooling out of her mouth as she went down.
