Chapter 17: The Morgue

Natalie sat on her bed.
Tears running down her face.
Yesterday something broke her heart more than she imagined it would.
Jake Fitzgerald was dead.
Her boyfriend.
The love of her life was now gone forever.

A knock came from her door and she wiped the tears away.
"Come in..."
Her door opened and Audrey was standing there.
"Hey Nat."
"Hi..."
She came into her room and closed it behind her.
"I came here to drop off some treats. Peanut butter cups and toffee pecans...your favorite."
She smirked alittle and Audrey sat beside her.
"How you doin?"
"Horrible."
"Have you written your speech for tomorrow?"
"No...I throught I should just wing it. I have a lot to say and I do not want to write it down."
"Okay. That's good."
"Your mother called me to ask you a question aswell."
"What?"
"She was wondering if you would want to see Jake and his parents. They came home today."
"Where?"
"At the morgue."
She sighed.
"Okay."
"Okay. Come on."
Audrey stood up and pulled her up. Audrey opened her draw full of shirts, pants and dresses.
"What do you wanna wear?"
"Jakes sweater. Top left blue."
Audrey slowly turned and grabbed the sweater. She grabbed some black jeans and set them on her bed.
"There you go. Come out when your ready and I'll drive you."
"Okay. Um Audrey..."
Audrey opens the door and looks at Natalie.
"Thank you...for everything you've done since Jake."
"No problem."
She stepped out and closed the door, letting Natalie change. Audrey put her head against the wall and shook it.
"I should of told her...I should of done something."
Audrey walked down the stairs and waited.

Natalie grabbed Jakes sweater and put it over her head. She put the black jeans on aswell and looked into the mirror to straighten the sweater. Her face was marked with mascara. She went to the bathroom and grabbed a cloth, put water on it and wiped her face with it.
She brushed her hair and walked down stairs to see Audrey.
She smiled.
"You look better now."
"Yeah. Throught I shouldn't put mascara on today, just in case."
They both chuckled and went to the Morgue.

They walked towards the building and Natalie stopped at the door.
"I can't...I can't do this."
"You can. It's okay."
Audrey grabbed her hand and held it.
Natalie breathed in and out and walked inside with Audrey.
Audrey knocked on the door and they both walked in.
They saw Jakes parents looking down at their dead son.
They looked up and saw Natalie.
"Natalie..."
"Hi..."
Jakes mother walked towards her, Natalie walked towards her and they hugged.
"I'm so sorry."
Natalie muttered.
"No it was not your fault. It's whoever did this to our son. We are planning his funeral. We will uh...tell you about it yeah."
"Yeah."
"Well we better be off. Prep for a meeting tonight."
"Your going to work."
"Fitzgeralds never lack off even with death...Thank you Natalie."
"For what?"
"For making him happy the time he had left."
The fitzgeralds walked out and Natalie saw her mother over Jakes body.
"I cleaned him up."
Natalie walked and Teresa moved next to Audrey.
Natalie looked at Jake.
He was clean, white and so cold.
His stomach was closed so he looked alittle bit better.
"Hes looks peaceful...but he isn't."
Natalie placed her hand on his cheek and stroked it.
"I'm sorry. Don't you worry, I'll find whoever did this and I'll make him pay."
She lighlty kissed his forehead.
"I promise."
