Time to Choose

1st of December came around quickly. Everyone wouldn't stop talking about Christmas. Lights were going up in houses, parents were getting children to write their letters to Father Christmas. Christmas used to be so exciting. All my family would come together and have a big meal. I'd play with my cousins (which I barely saw) and eat so much I'd feel sick. Now my cousins had grown up and moved house, I only saw some of my family, I didn't even know where I'd be for chirstmas and I never felt like eating the fatty christmas food and endless boxes of chocolates.

"Joey! What would you like for christmas?" My mum approached me.

I sighed. "I don't know."

"You must want something." She nuged me.

I thought. What did I really want? Happiness. Family. .....Daniel.
"Anything, some new clothes?" I say eventually.

"Well that makes things very easy for me." My mum laughed.

"Mum....who's house am I at this year for Christmas?"

"Your dad's." My heart sunk. Great, spending christmas with all of Venessa's family with a bunch of people I didn't know. I really hated Christmas now.....

"You excited for christmas?" Daniel said (clearly excited himself) as he sat down next to me in class.

"Ye...."

"You don't sound very excited. What's wrong?" Daniel put his hand in my shoulder.

"Oh nothing. It's fine, don't worry about it." I tried to sound happier.

"Ok. ..." he said uncertainly.

"Daniel! What you sitting over there for? Come sit with us." Daniel turned around to face his "friends" who were sat at the back glaring at me.

"No you're alright. I'll stay over here." Daniel said casually.

"Next to him?" Hunter pointed a finger at me and I sunk into my chair. "He's always so sad though. Why do you even like hanging out with him?" And then something clicked in Daniel.

"Because he is ten times a better person than you. He actually thinks about what he says before he hurts people. He's funny, smart and I would choose to hang out with him over you any day!" I stared at him in shock (as did everyone else in the classroom).

"You have one chance Daniel. Choose now. Us or your new little friend over there. And, I swear to God daniel, if you choose him you can forget about being friends with us." Hunter snarled.

There was no way he was going to pick me. Hunter and Daniel had been friends since.....forever. I was gonna lose Daniel now.

"Why you looking so sad Joey?" Hunter smirked. "Gonna go back to being all alone with Shane again....shame."

Tears brimmed in my eyes. He was right. Then, I'd rather have one good friend than have lots of friends like Hunter.

"I can't believe you, Hunter. What on earth happened to you?" Daniel looked so sad. "I choose Joey, me and you are so done." He sat down next to me and put his head in his hands.

"You didn't have to do that...." I whispered.

"Ye I did." He looked up at me and smiled. "You're way better than them."
