What awaited for me beyond these doors?
I'd never been in a prison. I'd seen them on TV but I had no idea what they'd be like in real life. Were the people there really as scary as they were portrayed? Or...were they just messed up people who lacked a little bit of guidance?
"Are you sure you don't want me to come in?" Daniel asked for the millionth time.
"I have to do this on my own. He's my dad. I have to get to the bottom of his messed up thoughts and violent actions." I replied, trying to sound calm.
"This way please?" One of the prison guards began to guide me through some doors.
"See you later, daniel." I smiled at him.
"Bye. Good luck." He returned the smile.
The guard didn't speak at all. Just kept walking with no expression on her face. Finally she opened a door which lead to a big room. There were tables, laid in rows with men and women in orange bibs sat at each one. Criminals.
My palms started to become sweaty. It took all my will power to keep moving. I received numerous glares from stereotypical men with tattoos and piercings. Aswell as a few smaller figures staring at me with their stony eyes and hard facial expressions.
I doesn't take me long to spot my dad. I would recognise his sarcastic smirk anywhere.
"What brings you here Joey?" He sneers.
Dear breathes Joey, deep breathes.
"Why are you here?" I get straight to it.
"You know why I'm here" He decided to be difficult.
"You know what I mean. Why did you get drunk? Why did you beat up that man?"
"It's simple." He leant over the table so he was in my face. "He was a disgusting gay...like you. "
I held back the tears...I will not let him control me.
"Why did you get drunk?" I repeated my first question.
"One reason Joey." He said quietly. "You."
"Me?" I didn't understand.
"Yes, you." He raised his voice. "You have no idea what you've done to me! You are the reason I started drinking!"He stood up. "Just get out."
I stood up. I couldn't believe what he'd just said. He was probably right. It was my fault. Not only that...but, if I was the reason he started drinking, I was the reason that man got beat up. It was my fault.
"Joey, you okay?" I was barely out of the room and Daniel was already by my side.
"I'm fine...let's just go home." I brush him off.
"Joey." He titled my head to face him. "What happened?" He said softly.
"It's all my fault." I cried. "I'm the reason he got drunk. I'm the reason that man is in friggin hospital!"
"Ssh." Daniel pulled me into a hug. "Did you force your dad to drink? No. Did you beat that man up? No." He pulled away and stared at me. "It's not you're fault."
I nodded.....but I didn't believe him.
