I stood there. Shocked. What had he done? Was he going to prison? Did I care?
"Come in." Daniel ushered the policemen into the living room and we all sat, awkwardly.
"We know this is har-"
"What's he done?" I interrupted the policeman. I knew it was rude but, in that moment, I didn't care.
"Well....when we found him he was drunk. Very drunk, in fact."
"Being drunk is not a crime. What did he do?" I was getting impatient.
"Joey..." Daniel gave me a warning glance but held my hand.
"Sorry...." I muttered.
"It's ok." Detective Wilson reassured me. "Your dad took part in attacking someone, Joey. There were four of them arrested, the victim being a man in his mid twenties."
I wasn't too surprised. Deep down he was always a violent man....the bruises on my ankles when I was little proved that. I guess he never was going to change.
"Oh....so what happens now?" I asked. I wanted him put away. The only feeling I had was hate.
"Well, we're not 100% sure on how involved he was in the situation...but, until we are clear, he will be held in a cell. We have to interview the victim, aswell as ask your dad his view on what happened."
"Urm...how badly hurt was the victim?" I asked, not really sure if I wanted to hear the answer.
"Well..." Detective Wilson looked a hit uncomfortable. "He's currently in hospital....it was pretty bad."
"Oh..." I looked down. Why did I feel guilty for my dad's actions?
We thanked the policemen and showed them to the door (well....Daniel did anyway).
"You ok?" Daniel asked me cautiously. I put my head in my hands.
"I don't understand. Why was he drunk? Sure, he drinks...but he's never got out-of-control drunk."
"Who knows? You never know what goes on inside people's heads." Daniel sat down next to me and put his arm around me.
"Well....I want to know. I want to know why he continuously throws away everything he has and refuses to accept that he's in the wrong. He pushed away mum, me, Jet!" I didn't understand. "I need to go and visit him."
"Are you sure?" Daniel said worriedly "Prison's are scary places. You don't know what he'll be like."
"I never know what he's gonna be like." I laugged. "I have to do this, Daniel. Otherwise I'll go insane." I gave him a reassuring smile.
"Ok."Daniel smiled weakly at me and pulled me closer into him.
