You wake up at a quarter to 6 in the morning. Not so surprising, you're an early bird and combined with the fact that you fell asleep so early it was bound to happen. Having a lot of time to spare before breakfast, you finish unpacking and decide to go down to the common room. You saw yesterday that there were a lot of books down there, so there has to be something you will want to read. You would have read your school books if it wasn't for the fact that you already read them twice, just to be prepared.
After an hour or so, people start coming down and you join them for breakfast. There are a lot of alternatives on what to eat, but you decide to go with your usual oatmeal porrige with honey. Why change when you know you like this, right? By coincidence you look up at the table besides yours and see someone you recognise. You look away quickly, and turn around to the people next to you.
"I've heard that there are some rivalry between the houses, is there something I should know so that I don't get into some kind of awkward situation?" you ask, half joking, half serious.
The girl sitting next to you -Cho- answers first.
"Well, we usually hang out most with other ravenclaws, but hufflepuffs are really nice and great friends. Gryffindors are also nice-"
She's interrupted by the boy sitting opposite of you named Terry.
"Well, that depends on who you are. Just because you're GOOD FRIENDS *caughcaugh* with Potter doesn't mean they're always nice." He gives Cho a knowing look and then continues.
"They are usually quite okay, but they think a bit too much of themselves sometimes. They like to think that they're nicer, braver and -well better than the rest of us. But I guess they can think we think of ourselves as a lot smarter so I shouldn't say anything". He sends of a big smile.
"Slytherins are the ones most people would warn you about, they tend to think a lot of themselves and if you are muggle born you will do best staying as far away from them as possible, just to be sure. But since you're new it's hard to say how they will act. In our year we have Malfoy, 'the king of slytherins', so I'd recommend you to avoid offending him and you'll be fine."
"Okay, I'll keep that in mind" you say with a smile. Not that you know who he is, you recognise the family name though. A true pure-blood family. Oh well, the first lesson is with Hufflepuffs so you decide to focus on that. Transfiguration. You look forward to this. Some years ago, this was the subject you had the most problem with, but then everything started to work out and now it was one of your favourites. This would be a great start of the coming year!

The lesson went perfect. You sat next to a Ravenclaw named Mandy and you were one of the first and only ones to succeed turning a toad into a violin. You got a lot of praise and were really happy.
In the afternoon you have history of magic together with the Slytherins. You feel nervous and at the same time quite excited to see who they are and what they're really like. You got along well with the Hufflepuffs and hope to do the same with the Slytherins. It's a bit silly that blood status matter so much to them, but well you were a pure-blood after all and if that was all it took then you were safe at least.
You arrive to class and after sitting down at a table in the middle of the classroom you catch a glimpse of blond hair. It's the boy from the train! Terry, sitting next to you, leans to you and whispers "that's Malfoy that I told you about. The blond guy over there" and he points straight at Draco.
Realising who he were made you feel strange. It was like all of a sudden you had a rock inside your belly but you didn't know why. It wasn't like you knew him, but what you'd heard about Malfoy didn't seem like it was the same person as the one who had looked into your eyes and smiled at the train. But of course, that was probably something you had imagined.
The lesson is quite boring. You try to be active and take notes, but seeing no one else do the same you begin to give up. After all, there's nothing new since you already read a book about this. You start looking around at the rest of the class to see what they're up to. You see Terry drawing and writing notes to his friends Michael and Anthony, and Su, another Ravenclaw girl, seems to be somewhere a long way from here judging by her look. Your eyes fall on Dra- no Malfoy. You had to start thinking of him as the person the other had described. Not the boy who's eyes and smile for some reason had stuck to your mind and that had appeared in your dreams last night.
