You are finally standing at platform 9 3/4. Looking as impressed by the Hogwarts express as the small first years you feel a bit odd. This is the first time you are going to Hogwarts. As a fifth year. Everyone will already have friends and know each other. Everyone except you.

Ever since you were little, going to Hogwarts has been your dream. But when you got the letter as a 11 years old, your family contacted the school and asked for permission to teach you at home. Your mother's health had always been horrible, and they wanted you to stay with her the time she had left, which probably wouldn't be that long. They arranged with the school so that you could keep up with what they studied in every year, having a home tutor for help. When the time was right, and your mother either got a lot better or passed away, you could attend Hogwarts.

Last term, that happened. You had been next to her right to the end and surrounded by her family she had fallen asleep never to wake up.

And that lead to where you were standing right now. Since you usually hadn't left your house a lot, you didn't really have any friends and wasn't sure how to make them. That was the thing that worried you the most. You had always been good at studying and had top marks in everything so that probably wouldn't be a problem (even though having classes in a regular school would probably be quite different)

You decide to board the train and see if you can find a seat somewhere. Maybe you will even find a few friends!

But when you start looking for a place to sit, you just find full compartments. Everyone sits with their friends and are laughing and talking. You see an empty seat next to three students that look as if their about your age. Your eyes lock with one of them. A platina blond, quite handsome guy. He gives you a small smile, then starts to look at someone right next to you. A girl pushes you away and sits down next to the blond guy.

"Hi Pansy" he says to the girl with a quite annoyed tone. She doesn't seem to notice the way he says it, or she ignores it, and give him a big smile and greets him and the two other boys.

"Draco 💛 so nice to see you! Crabbe, Goyle, hi"

You decide it's better to go elsewhere and try to find a seat.

The train had started to move before you finally find an empty spot. There is an odd mix of persons there, different ages and houses (based on the colour of their ties).

"I- is it ok if I sit with you? All seats seem to be taken"

"Sure, welcome!" Says a blond girl with a broad smile, and moves her bag so that you can sit.

"I'm Luna Lovegood. What's your name?"

"I'm Y/N L/N, nice to meet you"

"This is the Creevey brothers. They're in Gryffindor. I'm a Ravenclaw myself. What house do you belong to? I don't recall seeing you before"

"Umm.. I don't know yet. This is my first year at Hogwarts, even though I start fifth grade."

"Then you're one year above me. There are some nice people that age"

The two brothers had kept quiet until now.

"Then you're in the same grade as Harry! You know, Harry Potter! He's a Gryffindor like us and he's great!" Says the oldest one

"You know, he won the triwizard tournament last year!" adds the younger.

You did know who Harry Potter was, you may have been at home most of your life, but you did read the papers and had read a lot of books in which he was mentioned. And which witch grown up in a pureblood family hadn't heard of him? But you hadn't really understood why people praised him so much. Sure, he defeated He-who-must-not-be-named, but that had nothing to do with him as a person, he was only a baby when it had happened. But maybe he was a nice person and really deserved to be noticed, the enthusiasm shown by the brothers said that.

When you start getting closer to the school you change into the school robes. You've started to feel a little better, you get along really well with Luna and if you at least have one person to talk to, you'll be fine in school.
