First (Draco Malfoy x reader)

Chapter 20

You hated yourself for even thinking it, but the first thought that came over you when you heard about Dumbledore was that it was connected to Draco's secrecy. It felt awful, and you couldn't believe he would ever do anything like it... or at least you didn't want to believe that. But at the same time that would explain why he didn't want to tell you about it.

You looked over at his usual spot at the Slytherin table, but he wasn't there. As soon as you could escape you hurried towards the Slytherin common room, hoping to find him. Whatever the truth was you needed to hear it from him.

You were lucky to just catch him going out the door, with a packed bag.

"Draco?"

He looked at you, and you could feel your heart break a bit. He looked absolutely terrible, as if he hadn't slept for years and had cried and cried and stopped just in time for his eyes not to be red anymore.

"Y/N.."

"So that was your secret, wasn't it?" You said with a sad voice, fighting your tears.

He came up to you and wrapped his arms around you tightly.

"I am so so sorry Y/N I swear I didn't want to do it, but I didn't have a choice. He's really back. And I hate this but I have to leave with them now, for the sake of my family. We probably won't get the summer we talked about, I'm so sorry."

"I.. I'm not sure what to say. But I know you wouldn't have had anything to do with it if you had a choice. I love you Draco. Please promise you'll at least try to come back after the summer so I can see you?"

"I promise. I'll do everything for it to end well for us. We'll manage somehow I'm sure. I love you."

And with that he let you go and hurried away.

Mandy walks up to you in the common room.

"Y/N are you okay? You don't look to well."

"...Draco" you mumble

"I heard someone saw him leave school... was he really involved in this? I can't believe it! And did you get to see him before he left? Otherwise I'll come up with something awful to do as punishment for him leaving you here!!"

You can't help but laugh a bit at the passion in Mandy's voice when she says the last bit.

"He did say goodbye. And he didn't tell me how exactly, but I know he was involved somehow in this. It's awful."

"Try to cheer up a bit even if it feels hard. We have to make the best out of the situation like everyone else and then we have our summer break and hopefully things will be a bit more normal when Autumn comes."

"I wish I could say I believe you but I don't. But you're right, nothing will be better right now if I just sit around here all day."

"Then how about a walk outside?"

"No thanks, not right now. But maybe tomorrow."

The end of the term came quickly and suddenly everyone was stepping into the Hogwarts express.

"Can you believe we only have one year left now?!" Su says.

"Yeah it's unbelievable. At times I really thought it wouldn't end at all." Mandy comments.

"Let's make it the best year then! After all, after what happened with Dumbledore, nothing could be worse, right" Millicent says.

You weren't as sure that it'd be better as the others, remembering how Draco had looked when he said goodbye to you, but you didn't want to ruin the mood so you tried to play along.

"Yeah, and we have to meet up lots this summer!"

When you came home you went straight to your room and cried, all the worries from last year sweeping over you. Your father left you alone, knowing you needed the time alone.

When you later that night walked into the kitchen you saw him at the table, half asleep, waiting for you.

"Hi dad"

He yawned and smiled as he looked at you.

"I prepared your favourite food. It probably needs re-heating but that will only take a few minutes if you want to eat?"

"That'd be nice. Thanks dad." You smiled and sat down at the table.

You still couldn't ignore all your worries, but at least it really did feel nice to be home.
