The next day we woke up early and began our hike up the mountain again. We had no food now and we had a lot of ground I wanted to cover. Not eating or sleeping had finally gotten to me. I started feeling weak, but I couldn't show them that. About an hour went by and I decided we would stop and let grandpa rest for a few minutes. My head was pounding and I was feeling light headed, but I kept trying to shake it off. We were sitting on the ground when I heard a twig snap. I quickly jumped up to my feet and had my gun raised. Two men came out from behind the trees. They both were scruffy, looked like each other so they were probably brothers, one had a crossbow pointed towards us. I looked at the one with the crossbow, his eyes were a striking blue, his body muscular, and not gonna lie he was actually pretty hot. I quickly shook that thought out of my head when the other started talking,
"well well look what we got here. How bout ya put the gun down there little missy before ya shoot yer eye out."
I rolled my eyes and kept my gun aimed,"I'll lower mine when he lowers his"
"ain't gonna happen" the crossbow guy said.
"well then neither am I." I argued.
Grandpa quickly intervened,"how about we both drop our weapons and no one gets hurt?"
"shut up old man" the older one yelled.
I began to charge at him with my gun and crossbow guy intervened," hey! hey! back up!"
I looked to him and then back to his brother. I glared at him who now had a sick smile on his face like he won this little dispute,
"You ever talk to my grandpa like that again I'll kick your ass" I threatened.
"Feisty I like it" he smiled.
I rolled my eyes and felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked to see my mom giving me a concerned look. I sighed and lowered my gun. I watched as crossbow lowered his too,
"you guys got a group?"
"It's just us. My names Richard, that there is my daughter Nancy, and my granddaughter Mae." Grandpa said.
I just remained glaring at the men. At any chance of a possible threat these men were going to die.
"Daryl." Crossbow said, "that's Merle." He pointed to the other.
"No way you telling me it's just the 3 of you. You can't expect me to believe a group of 2 women and an old geezer have survived this long." Merle said.
I started to charge at Merle again, but my mom stopped me. I glared at him and he smiled back. I really hated this man.
"I know it's hard to believe, but it's true. I look out. Nancy here cooks and Mae hunts and goes on runs." Grandpa explained.
Both the men looked at me,"her hunt?"
"Ya got a problem with it?" I defended.
"Ya any good?" Daryl asked.
"Yea, but there's no game down here. We were heading further up." I explained.
I liked daryl. I could be civil with him, but Merle was the one that pissed me off.
"You have others?" Grandpa asked.
"None of yer damn business old man." Merle said.
I growled at him and Daryl said, "yah, got a group."
"can you take in 3 more?" Grandpa asked.
I immediately turned to him and said,"Grandpa no. We're fine"
I could tell the kindof men these two were. Daryl seemed alright, but I didn't trust merle one bit. I then began to feel light headed again. Shit not here. I tried to fight it off again but it wasn't going away.
"Yah, don't need anymore mouths to feed anyways. Even a pretty one like yours" Merle smirked.
I tried to glare at him again but I couldn't. I began sweating and my hearing was fading. I saw the men begin to turn to walk away and I couldn't fight it anymore. I began to fall and blacked out. The last thing I heard was my mom scream,
"Mae!"
