Daryl stayed silent after that, probably wondering what I meant. Sure Shane never did anything to me, but there was just something about him I didn't trust. Something evil hid behind his eyes and I knew it did because I starred into he eyes of the devil till I was 10. Resting my head head against the glass, I about fell asleep in minutes but I was lightly pushed by Daryl,
"We're stopping"
"What for?" I asked looking at the rv and seeing everyone stopping.
"Hell if I know" he mumbled while grabbing his crossbow and getting out of the truck.
I followed behind him and met with the group in the middle. As we all reached Sophia smiled up at me from her mothers arms as I gave a light smile back.
"What's goin on?" Daryl asked.
"It's Jim. It doesn't look good" Glenn sighed.
"He wants us to leave him" T chimed in.
My heart dropped. Sure I hadn't talked with Jim that much, but he was still part of the group and he was dying.
"It's what he says he wants." Officer grimes said sternly.
"And he's lucid?" Carol asked.
"He seems to be. I would say yes." Officer grimes nodded.
I watched as he and Shane then made their way into the rv. Looking around at the group, my heart froze. Where was my grandpa?
"Dale?" I asked leaving Daryl's side.
"Yeas miss Mae?" He smiled.
"Where's my grandpa?" I asked slightly worried.
"He fell asleep on the ride so I didn't want to wake him" he said.
Nodding, I nervously pulled at my sleeve and walked over so I was In between T and Sophia. I jumped when I felt something small grab my hand. Looking down I noticed Sophia smiling lightly up at me as she gripped onto my hand. Calming myself down, I smiled and squeezed her hand. Feeling eyes on me the entire time, I look across and see daryl starring. I smiled lightly as groans appeared from the side. I watched as the two officers brought Jim out of the house and followed them as they sat him under a tree. I hung back as everyone said their goodbyes. I didn't know if I should seeing I barely knew the guy so I stood by daryl. Once everyone started making their way back to their vehicles I decided to walk up to Jim. Bending down to his level, I faked a smile,
"Hey I know we barely knew each other, but I'm sorry this happened to you"
He smiled lightly and looked at me with his glossy eyes,"it's alright Mae. Everything happens for a reason."
Nodding, I gulped back tears as I said,"do you mind doing me a favor when you get up there? Tell my mom I'm sorry for what I said that I....I..."
I stumbled trying to get the L word out. I fought against my body telling it to just say it and it killed me that I couldn't. I heard Jim chuckle and he placed his cold, limp hand on mine,
"I'll send her your love"
Nodding,i fought back my tears and quickly retreated back to the truck. I heard daryl following behind me until Jim said,
"Daryl?"
We both turned and daryl said,"get in the truck. I'll be there in a sec"
Nodding I turned and got in the truck, closing the door behind me. Quickly wiping my eyes of any tears threatening to spill, I watched out the window as daryl bent down as Jim whispered something in his ear. I watched as daryl nodded and then started walking back towards the truck. Curiosity consumed me as he got in the truck, but didn't say anything. We rode in silence the whole way to the CDC and when we reached it, I got out of the truck and looked at the large building infront of us. It seemed almost untouched by the end of the world. Could this actually work? I was nudged out of my thoughts when Daryl's shoulder hit me. I looked at him with his crossbow over his shoulder,
