3rd person pov

Daryl's body was on fire as dales words repeated in his head. Slowly turning back to the older man he gritted,

"What did you just say?"

Dale's eyes widened when he realized what he just said. He took a step back when he saw the glare from the now angry Dixon aimed at him. He realized what he just started by letting the wrong words slip from his lips,

"That girl looks at you like you two are the only people in this whole world. She looks at you for guidance, for safety and you just throw her to the side like she Is nothing!"

Daryl's fists clenched to the side as he stood completely facing Dale. Dale swallowed back the fear in his throat and continued,

"You push her away, make her feel like she's nothing just because you're scared"

"You don't know shit!" Daryl spat storming towards dale.

"I don't know? I don't know!? You look at Mae the exact same way I looked at my wife before she died! Except something is different..."Dale said.

"What is that?" Daryl growled.

"My wife died knowing I loved her more than anything. Mae could die at any moment. You really want her to die not knowing? Think about that." Dale said.

Both men were now inches from each other. Daryl glaring down the older man and breathing heavily. It was taking everything in him not to punch dale into a bloody pulp. The worst part of it was he was right.

"You say you don't care, but you do. You say this group is broken. Mae is broken and the only one that can fix her is you" dale said and without giving Daryl a chance, he walked away.

Daryl watched him slowly disappear in the distance with his words replaying I his head making him shake. He growled in frustration and did what he did best. Stormed out to the woods in hopes he would clear his head.

Mae's pov

The group was debating Randall's fate. I told them I didn't want anything to do with it. Sure I knew the kids group was bad and I didn't want any of them coming here, but if couldn't choose between life and death for someone. So while they all did that, I stayed outside on the porch with Carl. Swinging on the porch swing he asked,

"You think they'll kill him?"

Stopping mid swing I sighed," I don't know Carl. Your dad will do anything to keep this group and your family safe so he'll do what he has to do."

"Are you really dad's sister?" He asked.

I arched an eyebrow confused and then he continued, "whenever dad talks about you he says your his little sister."

I felt tears come to my eyes as I gasped. Officer grimes actually thought of me as his little sister? as family?

"So does that make you my aunt?" He asked.

A quivering smile spread across my face as I nodded, "I guess"

He smiled and leaned his head on my shoulder and I leaned my head on top of his as we started to swing back and forth again. About an hour went by when dale stormed out of the house causing both me and Carl to jump. Seconds later everyone piled out of the house followed by officer grimes. Seeing me and Carl he walked over to us and ran a hand through his hair. Without any words I knew what they decided, Randal was going to die. Nodding, I walked past him so he could speak to his son, I walked down the porch steps. I noticed Daryl walking off towards his camp. I fought the urge to follow him and walked into my tent picking up the notebook officer grimes got me and opened to the first page and began writing. A few hours went by and I hadn't even remembered falling asleep. Sitting up, I looked outside to find it now dark, but seeing as a fire was still lit in camp, it wasn't that late. I saw the light in the barn on so I immediately knew what was going on. My stomach felt empty thinking about what was going on in there when something caught my attention. I saw dale walking off in the distance. Running up to him, I startled him a bit but he instantly calmed when he saw it was just me,
