Mae's pov

"Mae!" I heard someone run up to me.

Stopping mid step, I turned and saw officer grimes. Huffing, I didn't want to be around anyone right now, but I waited for him to catch up. Once approaching me he smiled warmly, but I just starred back. I couldn't even force myself to smile. I just turned and started walking again, keeping my eyes to the floor.

"Hey you alright?" He asked walking alongside me.

"Yea why you ask?" I said.

"You've circled this farm for about 2 hours mumbling to yourself. Starting to scare people" he chuckled.

I stopped and just looked at him. Had I really been circling for over an hour? My thoughts had been so jumbled and my insides so confused I must've lost track of time. Looking back down to my feet I heard officer grimes ask,

"Mae you sure you're alright?"

Feeling tears threatening to spill again, I quickly forced them away, "I'm fine. Did you need something?"

I could tell by the look in his eyes that he didn't believe a word I was saying, but I was thankful he didn't push it.

"Uhh yea, I got you this" he said handing me a notebook.

Arching an eyebrow I looked down at the soft blue cover and then back at him as he smiles,

"I remember you liked to write and draw. That it helped you when everything with your dad happened. Figured it could help now too"

My breathing caught and the book in my hands grew heavier. With everything that had gone down I forgot that I use to love to write. I had even written a few books. It was my own personal way of escaping my life with my dad.

"Thank you" my voice cracked as I gripped him in a hug.

I felt his body jerk in surprise. This was the first embrace with someone that I ever initiated, but within seconds I felt his arms wrap around me. Officer Grimes's hugs were different from any others. They were warm. They made me feel safe. It was different from Daryl's arms.

"C'mon". He said pulling out of the hug and smiling down at me, "let's go see what the others are doing."

Keeping the notebook close to my chest, I followed him until we were with the group. Everyone was there except for some of the Greene family and Daryl. Did he really hate me that much he was going to avoid group meetings too?

"So, what you gonna do?" Tdog asked.

" We'd all feel better if we knew the plan." Andrea added.

"Is there a plan? We gonna keep him here?" Carol asked.

" We'll know soon enough." Officer grimes said looking over towards the barn.

Following his gaze, my breathing hitched as I saw daryl storming from it. He didn't look happy and when he finally reached us I noticed his knuckles were all bloody.

" Boy there's got a gang, 30 men. They have heavy artillery and they ain't looking to make friends. They roll through here, our boys are dead." Daryl explained causing me to flinch and look down at my boots, "And our women, they're gonna-- They're gonna wish they were."

My head snapped up hearing last part to find Daryl starring at me. Once our eyes connected, he immediately looked over towards officer grimes who was glaring back at him which cause Daryl to look towards the ground.

"That was weird" I thought to myself.

"What did you do?" Carol asked motioning towards his hands.
