Mae's pov
I flinched as T-dog brought me into a hug. I still didn't do well with hugging, but I guess being around this group, especially T, it's something i gotta get use to. Feeling more eyes on me, I watched daryl grunt and walk away from over his shoulder. What was that about? T released the hug, but my eyes never strained from the redneck. T's eyes followed my gave and sighed turns back to me.
"What's his problem?" I asked.
"It's Daryl, who knows." He shrugged.
I nodded, but couldn't keep my eyes from returning to daryl who was now glaring out the window to the streets. I guess I should've expected this kinda welcome coming from him, but for some reason I thought differently. I was about to make my way over to him when officer grimes walked back in with a half load of guns over his shoulder. He immediately walked over to me,
"You alright?"
I slightly nodded and hesitantly looked over to daryl who was now starring back. Smiling back at Rick, I made my way around him and over to Daryl who immediately looked back out the window once he saw me approaching. Sighing, I stood across from him looking out the window. We stood there awkwardly for a few moments until I snuck a look at him. I noticed he was looking at me also through the corner of his eye which caused me to smirk.
"Thank you" I whispered.
"Fer what?" He grunted.
I completely turned towards him, but he never once adverted his eyes from the window,
"For coming back for me"
"Yea well it wasn't my idea" he grunted harshly.
I felt my face pale as it literally felt like my heart shattered and I don't know why.
"Yer two boyfriends over there wouldn't leave without you" he growled finally looking at me with angry eyes.
My eyes widened at the pure anger and somewhat disappointment in his eyes.
"Who? T and officer grimes? They aren't..." I started to say confusingly, but never got to finish as he grunted,
"Yea whatever." And walked back towards the others.
I just watched him walk away and felt like I couldn't breathe. Tears threatened to spill from my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. He was just like every other man I trusted. He would've left me here to die and not even cared. Not even turn his head.
"You're stupid to think he would" I heard my dads voice echo in my head.
Shaking my head I was brought out of my thoughts when I heard officer grimes yell,"Mae come on! We're goin!"
Nodding I ran and caught up with them making sure I stayed a nice distance from daryl. As we exited the vatos place, the warmth of the sun hit my face. We started our way back to the truck when daryl said,
"Hey! Ain't we supposed to check out dat pharmacy for the old mans medicine?"
One part of me wanted to beat his ass for calling my grandpa an old man and the other thought it was kinda sweet he thought about this. Officer grimes sighed and turned back to me,
"I'm sorry Mae, I honestly forgot"
I smiled lightly,"it's ok....while I was with them they told me it was cleaned out. Nothing was left"
He sighed and nodded as he adjusted his hat and we continued walking. I looked over at daryl and nodded to let him know I was thankful for thinking about my grandpa. He slightly nodded back as we followed officer grimes. I walked by T when I noticed Glenn looking a Little antsy whenever he looked at me. I quickened my pace so I was next to him. He was looking at me out of the corner of his eyes hesitantly.
