Daryl's pov
We were less than a mile away from the highway. Thank god for that cause I don't think I could take anymore of the whinin and bitchin coming from these pricks. I just wanted to find Sophia and get back to the damn highway. I wonder if ricks group is already back with her and why they shot that gun. The gunshot still weighed heavily on my mind and I didn't like it. Mae and Carl were there with them and if they had to use a gun, it's cause they were threatened. Everything would've been fine if Mae would've just come with me and she would've if I didn't say them things I said to her before. Fuck I didn't mean to yell at her, but when I'm mad it just comes spilling out. The fact that she wasn't eating, sleeping, or talking bothered me. Fuck it bothers me that it's bothering me so bad! Screams start filling the air and they pull me from my thoughts. Quickly turning and raising my crossbow, I see everyone panicking and running towards Andrea who had a walker on top of her. Running with them, I quickly aim my crossbow, but just as I'm about to shoot something else catches my attention. My gaze is quickly adverted when a woman riding on a horse rides through and hits the walker in the head off Andrea. Lori quickly helps Andrea to her feet and I aim my weapon at the girl on the horse. Looking around I see I'm the only one doing so. This girl could be a threat! The girl turns her horse towards us and what comes out of her mouth catches me completely off guard,
" Daryl? Daryl dixon? Whoa!"
I flinch and everyone's eyes go to me. How the hell did this girl know my name? I said nothing and just continued to glare and aim at the woman.
"Please is there a daryl dixon with you. I need to know." She begged.
"I'm Daryl. Ya got a point?" I growled still aiming at the bitch.
"Rick sent me-- You've got to come now." She begged.
" What the hell you talkin bout girl?" I growled.
"There's been an accident-- Mae's been shot. She's still alive but you've gotta come now. Rick needs you-- Just come!" She pleaded.
I almost dropped my crossbow on the ground as gasps and cries of fear filled the group. Lowering my crossbow to my side, I tried to keep my composure as I gritted,
"Where?"
"Rick said you had others on the highway, that big traffic snarl? Backtrack to Fairburn road. Two miles down is our farm. You'll see the mailbox-- Name's Greene" she said.
"Go! I'll meet ya there!" I told the girl.
She nodded and kicked the horse as we all watched her gallop away. We all stood silent in the group taking in what just happened. Without another thought, I turned and started running to the highway. I honestly didn't care if I lost any of them on the way back. Mae had been shot. She's dyin and I'm not there. Finally making it back to the highway, I was surprised the others kept up. Jumping over the guard rail, I said nothing as I stormed over to my bike. I heard dale questioning us and someone explain the situation as I readied the bike. Slinging my bag over the seat, I remembered the pills in Merle's bag. He would kill me if he knew I gave them to someone, but fuck he isn't here now and we needed to get movin to that farm. Gripping the bag, I stormed up to the group.
" Shot? What do ya mean shot?" Dale asked.
"I don't know, Dale. I wasn't there." Glenn sighed.
" All I know is this chick rode out of nowhere like Zorro on a horse and asked for me." I said coming up behind them.
All eyes turned to me as dale asked, And you believe her?"
Anger started to fill me,"Climb down out of my asshole, man. Rick sent her. She knew My name and Mae's."
