I followed behind Daryl closely, knowing that with my luck I'd lose him in the dark. I held onto my new necklace that T gave me tightly in my hand smiling at the sweet thought that my best friend surprised me with. I never thought I would mean much to anyone, but tdog has definitely showed me differently. He was my best friend. Smiling at myself, I almost bumped into Daryl when he stopped in the middle of a small opening in the middle of the woods. He didn't say anything as I walked to the side of him seeing that he was looking at the sky. I followed his gaze and was in awe. The stars shining bright as ever as they spread across the Georgia sky. The moon, full and illuminating. It was beautiful. I smiled widely as I looked from the sky to the man next to me. He was still looking up at the sky giving me the chance to truly admire. The way the moonlight hit him illuminated him completely becoming more beautiful than the sky itself. My heart pounded at how calm he seemed. Seeing the muscles on his arms lit by the night sky made my heart pound harder. Taking his eyes off the sky, I watched as he looked down to the floor and shook his head. I adverted my eyes back up to the sky hoping he hadn't noticed me starring.
"It's beautiful" I smiled at the sky.
"it's alright" he grunted.
I chuckled, "it's rare to have moments like these and to be able to find something beautiful left in this world."
"Ain't too hard" he whispered.
"Oh really now? Where have you found beauty Daryl Dixon?" I smiled still looking at the sky.
Daryl didn't answer, but I felt his eyes burning into the side of my head. I turned towards him as he starred at me intensely making my mouth dry. His blue eyes shining brightly in the moons light. I gulped nervously and every inch of my body was telling me to look away, but I was hypnotized and couldn't. He was the one to break eye contact and ran a hand through his hair like he was frustrated. Disappointment filled me as I watched him shake his head. I thought maybe we were going to have a moment, but I guess not. Sighing, I whispered,
"It's getting late, I need to get back to Georgie"
He said nothing and just looked to the ground. I sighed and started walking back when Daryl's voice cracked,
"Mae?"
I turned and saw him now looking at me desperately, "wait."
"What Daryl?" I asked crossing my arms.
"I ain't good at this" he growled frustratingly running a hand through his hair and biting his thumb nervously.
"At what?" I asked.
He pointed In between us and said, "this...us...feelings"
"Feelings?" I asked.
He sighed and stepped closer to me,"Mae you piss me off...you annoy the hell out of me and half the time You make me want to punch something."
I uncrossed my arms and looked down disappointedly only to have my chin raised by Daryl.
"But I would take any of them feelings if it meant I wouldn't feel like I did when I thought you were dead"
My eyes widened,"Daryl..."
"I know what I've put ya through Mae. I make you feel somethin and then hurt ya, hell I even hit ya, you make me so confused that it pisses me off....I didn't know what to do, what to say, but the truth is you scare the hell outta me" he whispered.
I felt like I couldn't speak. My mouth dry and I was frozen to the ground.
"Look what I'm trying to say is I'm not perfect, I'm never gonna be. I'm no good, and I don't show my feelings well...but I will protect you with everything I have in me. I will never hurt you and I will never let you go" he said.
