Part 9

Seb's POV

I went back to my chair, the smile on my face won't go away. We're friends now. Para kong nabunutan ng tinik. It just felt good that someone you are with everyday, in one room, is now your friend.

I checked the e-mails coming from my clients. Simple questions, they'd know the answer if they only read their contracts.

Well, not every one will read 5-7 pages contract with font of 12 or 13. Like you won't read a manual for any appliances you'll buy. That's what we're here for anyway.

Time passed by so quickly. When I check the wall clock again, it is already 5 minutes before 4. Tumayo ako, sinilip ko s'ya. She's already turning off her monitor and pc.

I did the same thing, nagpatay na din ako ng monitor at pc. Kailangan magtipid ng kuryente. Inayos ko ang mga folder sa ibabaw ng desk ko. Kinapa ko ang phone sa bulsa. All good.

That excited and nervous feeling came back. Nawala na 'to kanina. Tumayo na ko, lumakad ako papunta sa cubicle n'ya. Nakatayo na din s'ya.

Our eyes met. She smiled sheepishly. I smiled back. Awkward! I pulled my self together. "Let's go?" Kinuha ko ang dalawang cake na hawak n'ya.

Sumakay kami sa kotse ko. Kate called her earlier and she reserved a table for 3 in a fine dining resto. It is an hour away from the office, i'm sure yung malapit sa office n'ya dun s'ya nagpareserve.

Kate has been one of my close friends since I started working. She is my Boss, she is the Property Manager back then on our previous work. I was the Assistant Property Manager.

Mabait si Kate, understanding. Masayang kasama, minsan bully. Pero never ko s'yang nagustuhan, I only see her as a sister - older sister, ate. Matured kasi mag-isip si Kate although she's just 1 year older than me.

I didn't know she has a sister. We rarely talk about our personal lives. Until one day, she called me. Kailangan daw ng kapatid n'ya ng work, kakalipat lang nila ng bahay.

I asked them to come to my office so I can meet them at para na din mainterview ko ang kapatid n'ya.

The day I met Lizzie, namumugto ang mata n'ya. Parang kakaiyak lang. Hindi ngumingiti. Tahimik. Magsasalita lang s'ya kapag may tinatanong ako tungkol sa kanya. Apart from that, wala na.

For the past 6 months, mukang medyo nakakapag-adjust na s'ya. Pero same pa din, bihira n'ya kong kibuin. Parang ang pakay lang talaga n'ya, magtrabaho. Kaya hindi ko din s'ya pinapakialaman. She can do what ever she wants to do, just as long as hindi n'ya ko papakialaman. At, nagagawa n'ya ang trabaho n'ya.

"Dito na tayo." Narinig kong sabi n'ya.

Napalingon ako. Tinignan ko ang lugar. Itinigil ko ang sasakyan.

She unbuckle her seatbelt. Dali-dali ko din na tinanggal ang seatbelt ko. Tapos ay mabilis akong lumabas ng kotse. Bago pa n'ya tuluyan na mabuksan ang pinto ng kotse, nabuksan ko na.

"Thank you."

I offered my left hand to help her out of the car.

She look at me. She looks reluctant, but then she hold on to my hand. Napangiti ako. Little things like this makes me happy. Weird!

Sabay kaming pumasok ng resto. Nasa dulo si Kate. Kumakaway samin. Nilapitan namin s'ya. Inurong ko ang upuan para makaupo si Lizzie, umupo na din ako.

Without even looking at her, I can tell that Kate is watching my movements.

Since Lizzie started working for me, I'll get random calls from Kate. Twice a month maybe? She'll call to see how she's doing. And I understand her, she's doing her job as her sister.

"What do you want?" Tanong ni Kate kay Lizzie, inabot ang menu. Binigay n'ya sakin ang isa.

I checked the menu. Nagugutom ako sa nababasa ko, parang lahat masarap. Tinawag namin ang waiter. Inisa-isa namin ang order.

"Nasan pala yung cakes mo?" Tanong ni Kate.

"It's in my car." Sagot ko, sabay inom ng tubig.

Tinignan ko s'ya, lumilibot ang paningin n'ya sa kabuuan ng resto. Tinignan n'ya si Kate. "Why here?" Dinig kong tanong n'ya.

"What do you mean by, why here?" Nagtatakang tanong ni Kate.

Bumuntong-hininga si Lizzie, nagkibit balikat. Uminom din s'ya ng tubig.

May part sakin na naa-out of place. Bakit ba kasi sumama pa ko dito? Bakit ba pinilit ko na isama nila ko? Tuloy, may mga pinag-uusapan sila na hindi ko alam.

"San tayo after this?" Tanong ko. Pinagpalitan ko sila ng tingin.

Tumaas ang kilay ni Kate. "Sasama ka pa din samin hanggang mamaya?"

Tumango ako. "We're celebrating her birthday, right?"

"Manonood kami ng movie. Chickflick, ok lang?" Tanong ni Kate.

"Ok. Sige. Ano bang mga chickflick na movies?" Game kong sagot. I'm smiling.

I saw Lizzie smiled on her sister. But the smile faded away as soon as she saw me looking at her.

Hindi din nagtagal, dumating na yung mga inorder namin.

"Gusto mo?" Tanong n'ya kay Kate. Tapos ay nilagyan n'ya ng steak ang plato ng kapatid.

Parang masarap yung steak, dapat umorder din ako ng ganun!

She sliced another part of the meat, nilagay n'ya sa plato ko. Masyado bang naging obvious ang pagnanasa ko sa steak kaya nilagyan n'ya din ako?

I look at Kate, she's looking at me! Naniningkit ang mata n'ya habang ngumunguya. Nginitian ko lang s'ya.

I wanted to return the favor, nagslice ako ng inorder ko na cordon bleu. Nilagay ko sa plato ni Lizzie. "Gusto mo?" Nang-aasar kong tanong kay Kate.

Inambaan n'ya ko ng kamao n'ya habang nakayuko si Lizzie at ini-slice ang nilagay ko na cordon bleu.

Ngumiti lang ako. I'm happy, really, little things like this.. It lighten up my mood. Actually, seeing Lizzie smile, that already makes me happy.

From the "Me, Seb" perspective, I think i'm starting to admire her. I don't know why. I don't know when it even started. Dahil siguro she's not looking at me like the other girls does? May part sakin na nacha-challenge.
