Chapter 3: Damn Logan

Johnny

"Did you see Candy? Damn, that little pink skirt." Finn grinned while blowing smoke into the air. I gave him a side smirk while placing the cigarette between my lips. Finn, Ryan, Blake and I stood by the trunk of my car to have a quick smoke before class started. Finn did it to take a break from the constant bruises and cuts he got from his step-father; no one gave him shit for it, when he wanted to talk about it, he talked; most of the time, he preferred that we just ignored it. Ryan was probably trying to keep his morning wake n' bake sesh going and Blake was the baby, he did pretty much everything we did.

As for me, sometimes you need to let off a little steam and this was what I preferred. I tried the daily running, the yoga, hell, I even wrote in a journal and this was the only thing that helped.

"At Jeremy Youngblood's party? That pink skirt, she's got a small ass but, easy access." Blake grinned while reaching out to hit Finn's fist. I just smiled while looking at all of the students who still remained in the parking lot. A lot had already gone in, but a bunch of the seniors stayed behind.

"Hey, Johnny! You good?" Ryan asked while breaking me out of my trance and I looked at him and the guys.

"You going to take a spin on Candy, Blondie?" I smirked while taking a final drag before dropping the cigarette on the ground and stomping on it with my black boot.

"Maybe. How is she?" He asked me and I shrugged while pushing my hands into my pockets.

"She's all right. A little loud for me. I thought I was pretty good, but she puts on a whole performance. Don't know if she's trying to blow up my ego or not." I explained while scratching the back of my head.

"She's blowing your ego, dude. I have heard that Johnny Blackwood ain't that good." Finn teased while clapping my shoulder and I rolled my eyes while shoving him off.

"Hey, what about Lilith Youngblood? You think Keith has tossed her up yet?" Blondie asked curiously and I shook my head while Finn laughed.

"Lilith Youngblood? Blondie, she's a bitch." Finn said simply. We never called Blake by his real name; "Blondie" stuck because of his pale blonde hair and skin and "Baby Boy" came up a lot of times. He was just the baby of the group and we all loved to tease him about it.

"Nah, Keith had her wrapped up since they were young. That's what Jeremy said." Ryan told him. I sighed quietly as the warning bell rang. I turned, grabbing my bag from the trunk of my car and closing it. I wasn't a fan of school, I tried and I got good grades; I just didn't like it.

"Dude, you look like shit." Ryan whispered to me quietly as Finn and Blondie walked ahead of us. I ran a hand through my dark hair and shrugged while tucking my pencil behind my ear.

"Not much sleep last night. I'm fine." I assured him.

"Dude, your dad should give you a break. I know he wants you to take over the pack and whatnot but, you're seventeen. Not twenty-seven." He told me and I stopped walking at my locker as he moved on to his. My dad had good intentions, it's not like we had a bad relationship or anything. He just expected a lot from his oldest son and I wanted to make sure he got that; he did a lot for me and helped out a lot. I wanted to return it.

I opened my locker and shoved my bag in while grabbing out my books. We had Math first period with Mrs. Vallen. She was old and boring; I rather watch paint dry than listen to her. Like I said, I got good grades; but she was a broken record.

"Math, math, math...everyone fucking hates math." Finn sang while grabbing his textbook and skipping towards the class. We all laughed while making our way into the classroom. No one bothered the Blackwood's. Our pack was known for being ruthless and aggressive and we liked to keep it that way. Hence, we always had a small area in the back of the classrooms where no one sat.

I plopped down tiredly while setting my books down and kicking my feet up onto the desk as Ryan drummed his pencil on the desk next to mine.

Jeremy, Keith and other preppy Youngblood's began piling in at this point as well, all fresh-faced, perfect hair and prim clothes. Mostly taking their seats at the middle row. While we looked like we crawled out of some club, the Youngblood's looked like they came from the yacht club not too long ago. Then, at the front were some of the students who thought Mrs. Vallen was interesting. No one was interesting in this school. There was no spark here. It has been the same day-in and day-out at this school, nothing changed-

"We should have a new student here today..." Mrs. Vallen said looking around and I removed my feet while leaning forward and planting my chin on my hand and letting my eyes droop close on their own will.

They only opened when the door was opened loudly and I flashed open my eyes at the person who did it. Her foot was slightly in the air, signaling she had indeed kicked the door in. I stared at her ratted shoes that could probably be thrown out, I'm not even sure the sole was intact. Her black jeans had some faded parts showing that they were old as well, but they looked comfy and then finally her over sized t-shirt that hung on her body with an unknown band name on the front of it. Then, to top it all off...her bright teal coloured hair that matched her eyes. I think there was another girl in the tenth grade who had fiery red hair, I always thought it was cool.

The girl held a simple notebook and a pencil and pen in her hand as she scanned the room, looking over everyone. When she finally finished, she shrugged and took a step forward.

"Ah...Ms. Everton." Vallen said and the girl winked and pointed at her with a contagious smile.

"That's me, doll. Aren't you the cutest thing? Gosh. Listen, I would really like a window seat." She said while passing by her.

"Ms. Everton, there are no window seats to offer you." Vallen said narrowing her eyes and clasping her hands in front of her and I watched as the girl turned back.

"I didn't want an offer, doll." The girl chuckled and Vallen placed her hands on her hips and I found myself rubbing my chin while watching her carefully.

"Let me rephrase: I want a window seat. Tell one of these nice young gentlemen to move." She said pointing to a few people.

"Logan...?" I heard Keith and Jeremy whisper.

"Ms. Everton, you are new here. Please show some respect." Vallen said while rubbing her temples. Man, five minutes and Vallen was already done for.

"Fine, fine, I will be a good girl. Let the new girl have the broken desk. Thanks, doll." She said sarcastically while walking to the empty, broken desk. She scraped the chair loudly while sitting down and Vallen looked back at her while holding a piece of chalk and the girl shrugged innocently.

Mrs. Vallen continued to write down the pages we would have to work on before taking a seat at her desk.

"I don't have a book." The girl announced.

"Will somebody please share with Logan?" Mrs. Vallen asked and no one raised their hand, however, I don't think Logan cared as she stood up and walked to the two quiet girls in front of her. She grabbed the textbook off their desk and they moved their hands out to stop her;

"Hey!" One said and Logan looked at her with a smirk and winked; "Share, sweetheart."

"No!" The girl replied while reaching out and her hand almost touched Logan's and she dropped the book and snatched it again quickly.

"Fucking touch me again." She spat quietly and Mrs. Vallen sighed as the girl immediately retracted her hand and in a flick of a switch, Logan sent her another innocent and contagious smile.

"Thanks!" Logan said before walking away.
