Chapter 40: It's Only You
Johnny
I tried texting Logan but she wouldn't answer and it was starting to make me upset. I ran a hand through my hair and sighed as Jamie watched me. After that display in math class, I knew something was up. It had been months since Logan had an outburst like that.
"So, that girl..." She began and I rolled my eyes. It was nice catching up with Jamie, her and I used to be really close friends. Closer than Blondie, Ryan and Finn.
"I told you she's my mate, Jamie." I said.
"I just thought that because we had so much history-" I quickly cut her off.
"Jamie, are you serious? I have found my mate, you should be happy for me. Logan is my girl and means the world to me and honestly, you were the one who walked away from me that day. I'm willing to be friends but if you can't then forget it." As I said that a bunch of kids looked out the window.
"Yo, there is an ambulance outside!" Someone said. I got up and looked out the window and tried squinting around to see what had happened. There were too many people in the way so I could not see anyone.
"What happened?" Ryan asked.
"Children, please sit down and focus on your work." Mrs. Vallen said and she shut the blinds quickly and ordered us back to our seats. She has been quiet since Logan's outburst, I don't think she had any words to say back to her and that was that.
"Mrs. Vallen can I go to my locker?" I asked.
"No, Johnny." She said not even looking at me and I rolled my eyes at her response. She was the type to only let us go if it were an emergency, otherwise, she wanted us to go on our break or in between classes.
"It's urgent." I said.
"Johnathan, enough. I'm sure your father wouldn't appreciate you skipping class. Do your work." She ordered and I cringed at her saying my full name. The only person I liked hearing my full name from was Logan and I had a bad feeling about this whole situation right now. The fact that this teacher brought in my dad too, that was a low blow.
I waited patiently for the bell to ring and once it did I bolted out the door. I ran to the school entrance but the ambulance was already gone. I pulled out my phone and saw that Logan had not messaged me back.
I ran to the office pushing people out of my way as I did. I wasn't small and I could certainly push my way through a crowd if I needed to.
"Calm down, Johnny!" Someone snapped. I said nothing and pushed open the doors to see the principal standing at the secretary's desk.
"Where's Logan?" I demanded. He looked at the secretary momentarily and I sighed in annoyance.
"Where is she!?" I demanded raising my voice, he was hiding something and he didn't need to talk to the secretary beforehand, he just needed to tell me.
"She went to the hospital, Johnny. She had passed out and wasn't responsive." He said and I sighed and turned heading to my locker. I shoved my books in and grabbed my backpack and went out to my car. I tossed my bag into the backseat and drove to the hospital quickly. I went over the speed limit but at this point, I didn't care, I just had to get there as quick as possible.
The hospital was fairly quiet considering werewolves healed quickly. However for smaller packs, women came here to give birth because they didn't have pack doctors. I looked for the front desk and I made my way to it quickly and to the nurse at the front. She looked up and eyed me oddly but put down her files.
"Can I help you, sir?" She asked.
"Yes, where is Logan Everton?" I asked while drumming my fingers along the counter impatiently. My worst nightmare was coming true right now and this woman was moving as slow as possible.
"She is not receiving visitors at the moment." She told me simply and I gave her a shocked look and shook my head.
"That's great. I'm her mate, now can you please tell me where she is." I said trying to remain calm and the nurse didn't budge.
"She is in critical condition and is not receiving visitors. Doctors are seeing to her so you will have to wait." She said with an edge to her voice and she pointed to where the waiting area was.
"How is she?" I asked using a bit of alpha tone which caused her to falter.
"She is not good...the doctors are doing everything they can. You will just have to wait." She said. I turned and pushed back my hair and moved over to the waiting area and I knocked over an end table with magazines on it and Sam came over and pushed me back.
"Sorry!" Sam apologized to the people that looked over.
"Go sit the fuck down." He growled under his breath and I listened and went over and I slumped into the chair and stared at the wall across from me while putting my head back. Sam fixed the table and sat next to me.
"What happened?" I asked.
"She was really upset and then all of a sudden her eyes went all grey, like she was blind and she said she couldn't see. Then she just passed out. She stopped breathing and when the ambulance came they had to cut her throat to get her breathing again. It was scary, dude." He said shaking his head and I sighed while placing a hand over my eyes.
"She was really upset over you and Jamie." He said quietly and I felt him staring at me and I frowned while continuing to stare at the floor.
"It's nothing with Jamie. It's always Logan and it will always be only Logan." I muttered while turning to look into his eyes to let him know I was serious. I was surprised when he didn't back down and he just looked at me.
"Dude, she didn't know that. The way you devoted your attention to that chick. Fuck, Johnny, Logan was doing so well, if that chick truly means nothing, you should have noticed how mad it made Logan. Now, look where we are." He said bitterly.
"Are you saying this is my fault?" I whispered.
"No-I...fuck, I'm not saying that, okay? All I know is that my best friend, my sister, is in the hospital and I had to watch paramedics cut into her throat so she could breathe. I'm a little freaked out, okay?" He snapped and I looked at him and I placed my hand on his knee and squeezed.
"Thank you for being there for her when I wasn't." I said and he sighed.
"I wish I wasn't. I don't think I will ever get that out of my head." He muttered.
