Chapter 42: Sleeping Beauty
Johnny
I sat on the chair next to Logan. She was still asleep and it has been about two weeks since I heard her laugh or seen her smile. Ryan, Finn, and Blondie have tried to cheer me up but nothing was helping. Jamie tried talking about dating again and I told her to fuck off. The last thing I wanted to do was talk to some other girl that wasn't Logan. Sam had made it pretty clear to me that Logan was extremely upset when she saw me talking to Jamie, I had to make amends quickly when she woke up and that is even if she will forgive me. I don't know if she ever will but I had to try.
I came in every day after school and I stayed until about eight every night. The doctor said talking to her might help a little bit so I would catch her up with what was happening at school and Sam would come in and tell her all about him and Finn. Jake would often sit in here alone with her and sing his songs to her and then Dean would read to her the cases he was doing. Everyone was here to support her, even her biological family. Her mom, dad and brothers would be in checking on her everyday as well. I was exhausted lately and I was missing football practice and some of my homework. Thankfully, my mom made my dad understand and she made him call the school and fill them in. I was basically given a pass for all that had happened but it still was taking a toll. I couldn't sleep at night, knowing she was in here with a tube down her throat to help her breathe.
It was also really dull without Logan. I was used to her jokes, her no filter, and her lively attitude. Now, she was pale and quiet as she laid on the large hospital bed. The room seemed too quiet when it was just her and I. I wasn't sure how much more I could handle of this silence. Logan always had something to say, always had a scowl on her face or some crazy grin and here I was missing every single part of her and I wasn't sure what to do.
"Johnny, she is going to be fine." My mom whispered while rubbing my shoulders. I was sitting at my desk writing an assignment, I could barely focus but of course, I couldn't get out of everything. I had to do some work for my classes and trying to focus on this assignment right now was not helping. My mom was trying to help me by bringing me coffee and tea and whatever else she thought would help me focus but nothing was working. I just couldn't do it. Jace, Jonah, Jesse and JJ were here as Jace was getting married. I was hoping that Logan would come with me but that was currently not possible. To be honest, I should be happy for my brother right now and help him celebrate and whatnot, but I just couldn't get into it.
"Honestly dude it was just a freak accident. She will be alright." JJ said as he sat across from me twirling a pencil in his hand. I said nothing and stared at the wooden desk and my mom sighed while kissing my cheek.
"I know it's hard and it's even more difficult to try and focus on something else." She said ruffling my hair. I nodded and stared at all the words on the page that kind of blurred together. I sighed and sat back rubbing my eyes. I was exhausted, I couldn't even see the page correctly and my eyes felt heavy and swollen from the lack of sleep.
"Want me to proofread that for you? When was the last time you got a good nights' sleep?" JJ asked.
"I had a best night of sleep a few weeks ago." I smirked and he tossed his head back and laughed. I chuckled for a bit and I then looked at the floor and that little dark rain cloud returned over my shoulder.
"My baby bro has mated his girl before me." He said disbelieved while shaking his head and I just nodded while remembering that night and just remembering Logan in particular. She was so nervous and awkward it made me laugh.
"Yeah, it was a special night." I said.
"Aww, did you comb your fingers through her hair?" He teased and I grinned slightly, JJ could make me laugh with his humour. He was named after my dad's best friend who passed away before he was born. Dad said the guy was a total goof that could make anyone laugh and JJ was like that as well. When mom or dad were pissed they whipped out the full name 'Jeremiah Junior' and JJ would lose his mind.
"And if I did? She has soft hair. I told her that I loved her." I said smiling happily and he looked at me and raised an eyebrow.
"You did? You meant it?" He asked me making sure and I almost frowned and snapped at him for even asking me that. That is not something I blurt out to just anyone.
"Of course I did. She's perfect. Enough said." I said whispering the last part. JJ just smiled and listened to me speak. JJ then stood up and I glanced up at him and he placed a hand on my shoulder and looked down at me.
"I'm proud of you. Everything will work out. If you have ever listened to me in your life, which is probably not a lot because mostly our family thinks I am just goofing around...well, just take it day by day. She will wake up and she will forgive you." He said and I frowned while sitting up to full height and I looked at him.
"Forgive me." I stated and he put his hands into the pockets of his jeans.
"Oh, you think I didn't know? We caught wind of who is back in town. Don't worry, dad doesn't know but we all do. I mean, mom made sure he didn't find out. I don't think he'd be too impressed if he did." He said and I made a face while standing up.
"Wait, so everyone knows?" I asked while moving forward and he held up his hands.
"Don't shoot the messenger, baby bro. I'm just looking out for you." He said grinning like a maniac before darting away and I ran a hand through my hair and shook my head while turning away.
