Again

Untitled Part 17

Eren's POV

Levi and I both ate in silence when the food arrived. It was almost four in the morning as we both haven't ate in I don't know how long. Myself due to the drugs and him due to being worried so much about my well-being. He told me that Mikasa and Armin were also worried too as they were by my bedside before their departure. He also mentioned that they'll be returning to check on me soon. Looking at him, I can tell something was on his mind besides everything that recently occurred.

"You alright?" I asked.

At first he didn't respond but when he did it was like he wasn't fully there. His voice was soft and I had to listen closely to get what he was saying. Taking in his appearance, he changed. It must've been a long time since I left him while he was sleeping in my bed that night. His hair looked the same but looked untamed and slightly longer, he haven't shaved which created the illusion of a scruff, and he probably showered only recently because either Armin or Mikasa told him to. If it wasn't for them, he'll probably be like me and in need of one badly.

"I guess. I think I'm just tired, " he said softly. "I haven't really slept since I came here."

"Then you should sleep."

"I can't. It's not that simple, Eren." He said as he looked down.

"Why not?"

"For then when I wake up you might be gone. You might not be there in bed, here with me."

"I'm not going anywhere. When was the last time you slept decently?"

Levi was silent for he wasn't sure himself. Whenever he fell asleep he would only have nightmares. At first it would be memories of meeting new people but then it would change to them dying horrific deaths. It would then change to him loosing Eren, he just couldn't handle it all when he just got everything back.

"I need to tell you something."

"What is it?"

"I have to get it off my chest or else you will be left with more questions than answers."

"What are you talking about?"

"I read your files Eren. I remember."

"Remembered what?"

"Everything. I remembered when we first met, I remembered traveling the world for the first time, I remembered the last Titan Fall."

"Levi..."

"When I read your files I remembered everything with the attacks and the walls collapsing. Even if you don't, I remembered when you joined the Survey Corps. The sick irony of time repeating itself as you still work for them as I once had."

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"What don't you understand? Time repeats itself, it was only a matter of when. I realized something was wrong when I first applied and got the job there."

"Levi you worked for the Survey Corps?!" I was more surprised than shocked about this new information that he was telling me.

"Didn't I tell you to just listen? And yes I had, a long time ago in this new reality. I was with Erwin, Hanji, and Petra. We knew the in-and-outs of the facility but then it took a twisted turn."

"We were separated and I was with a new group of people. They were called the Rose Corps but for every rose had it's thorns up it's ass. The team were ruthless, I didn't want to be a part of that anymore. They were heartless, I loved and hated what I did. They killed, I just wanted to help them. They did it out of joy as I was forced to. They manipulated our minds and we didn't figure out what it was until it was too late and already being distributed to the other branches of the military. The purpose of the Titan Serum was to alter the reality with images, they forced Hanji to make it with a formula they provide and forced me to try it. I don't blame you for even seeing it in your possessions. It is terrifying. They made it so that they made it seem like the things we were killing we're monsters, they were humans."
