Levi's POV
Eren and I made it back to Germany, Hanji was still completely crazy by the lack of information that we gave to her upon the matter. When I told her that he knew about us with the organization she piped down. Eren was a little confused of why she wanted to know so much about his job when she technically knew already but she just wanted to see how much it changed when we left. She was wondering about the other branches and if there was any Serum left that was still being administered. I admit that it cleaned itself up but it still has some holes that needs to be fixed. With their help, it may not be that far in the future.
We decided to help Eren with his investigation involving his parents murder. With all that we have gathered we have ideas of who it could be. One of the challenges was keeping it a secret from Mikasa and Armin, they don't know Hanji's history or mine for the matter. Even if they did they would never agreed with us helping out Eren.
They did though, in the end Eren talked to them privately and they silently agreed. I was about to ask them how they were going to get this around Petra but they didn't want to discuss anything anymore. With that I just oblige.
Eren's POV
I woke up to a song, it sounded familiar but I couldn't hear it clearly. I got up from my bed and went downstairs to the kitchen. Mikasa was sitting by herself in the dark, with an empty mug in her hand. She and Armin did stop by before making their way back to Germany. They had to explain to Petra what happened as she understood the situation. Leaving the lights off I grabbed the coffee pot and poured her another cup.
"Couldn't sleep?" I asked as I sat in front of her.
There were bags underneath her eyes, it reflected off the glass table. She reminded me of a female version of Levi if I had known better. Those bags didn't suit her one bit. She nodded no as she felt the warmth seeped between her fingers.
"I can't believe time is repeating again..." The silence was deafening. I was about to go back to bed when she spoke.
"No matter what happens, I was going to lose you."
"Mikasa-"
"Did you know what happened when you left?" She snapped. I shook my head no, she rubbed her face from lack of sleep.
"I fell in the lake-" I was cut off by her sharp tongue.
"It was not a fucking animal attack. Armin and I were the only ones who saw your body. He didn't want to admit it but I knew you killed yourself. I had to tell the authorities that is was some mysterious sea animal attack. Why did you do it Eren?! Why did you leave us alone?!" She clinched onto the mug until it broke in her hand.
I got up from my chair to clean up the mess she made. The clear table top showed her real emotions reflecting back. The brown liquid contrasting against her blood. Small fragments were embedded within her smooth skin. Small droplets landed on the floor, but I didn't care. Sweeping up the pieces of the mug, I started to clean. I failed to realize what harm I actually did when I left the first time. Resulting in more catastrophe the second.
"I'm sorry... I had to leave-"
"But why?" She pleaded.
"To come back here with all of you," I murmured as I did my best to clean her injured hand.
"Eren..."
"When I accidentally got in contact with the Serum, it took me back. I went back to our days being captives behind those damn walls."
"How long were you there?"
"I was there for my entire lifetime." I told her the truth. I was there for my entire life. It was long and painful, watching the people I loved died and having to leave them all alone in the end.
