Pick Up Puns for Valentines Day

"Good morning, Y/N." Izuki walks beside you into school.

You notice that Izuki had a strange smirk on his face and immediately thought of running to safety.

"Morning cutie-kun." You reply with a cheeky smile. Izuki shakes his head at you.

"Are you coming to watch my practice today?" He asks with hope present in his eyes.

"Oh, I'm sorry, Izuki. I have to study in the library after school." You playfully pout and he looked genuinely upset by your answer.

"But it's valentines day... I thought we were going to spend today together." He pauses and examines your face. "You know, because we're best friends."

Dammit.

The truth was you were head over heels in love with your pun-obsessed best friend Izuki. You were too scared to say anything to him because you knew all too well that if he didn't reciprocate your love, the friendship would be as good as over.

The awkwardness and tension would always be in the air. It would be the elephant in the room that no one wanted to address. That wasn't what you wanted.

"I know... But if I don't study then I'll fail this test."

"I know. It's okay. I was just testing you to see if you cared more about me or your test."

You giggle and punch Izuki in the shoulder. He grunts and pretends to be in unbearable pain but you could see the small smile on his lips. He makes it way too easy to love him.

"I'll see you later, cutie-kun."

You wave goodbye and head off to your first class of the day. You were gripping your books in your arms unusually tight making the skin around your knuckles turn slightly white.

You just wanted to be with him.

You rhythmically tap your pen against the desk. Your best friend is sitting beside you studying as well. She didn't want you to go to the library all alone so she came to keep you company.

"So... What's going on with you and Izuki?" Your best friend asks after slamming her text book shut. You stick the end of the pen in the corner of your mouth as you let out a massive sigh.

"It's complicated. I love him and he loves puns." You and your best friend giggle at your lame statement. "But in all seriousness... He's occupying my heart and my brain and I feel like the world is playing a cruel joke on me. It's kind of unfair that we're not together." You groan and slam your forehead against the table. She nods and her eyes wander over your shoulder before looking back at you.

"I'm... Gonna go find a... Book? Yeah. I'm going to go find a book to read." Your best friend abruptly stands up.

"A book to read? I can't remember the last time you willingly opened up a novel to the first page." You tease.

"Shut up. Bye!" She spins around and speed walks off to one of the isles.

You shrug your shoulders and start writing down more notes until someone taps you on the shoulder. You look up and Izuki is smiling down at you.

"Izuki!?" You lean up and give him a quick hug. "What are you doing here? You have basketball practice..." You glance at the clock on the wall. "Right now."

"You aren't happy to see me?"

"Of course I am, you punny idiot. I just want to know what you're skipping basketball practice for."

"I have some pick up puns I would like to try on you-"

"Pick up puns!?" You interrupt with a 'pft' noise as you laugh loudly.

"- because there's this girl I'm in love with."

Your face falls and you blink. Masking your feelings for him had become easier over time.

You smile.

"Pick up puns, huh?"

"Yes."

"Sure. Go ahead, Shun."

"Wait... I have one condition." He adds as he sits in the chair beside you. "If I manage to make you laugh you have to kiss me."

"That's a weird condition... But... Okay?" You hesitated. Not because you didn't want to kiss him but because none of what he said made any sense. If there was a girl which he loved, why would he ask you to kiss him?

"If I could rearrange the alphabet I would put U and I together."

"Heard that one before." You reply.

"They just installed a parking metre out the front of the school." He states.

"Yeah, I know." You respond not having any idea where he was going with this.

"Are you a parking ticket? Because you have fine written all over you."

You raise your eyebrows and bite your lip to hold back a smile.

"Oh, you didn't pay for your parking ticket, then? That's why you got your license suspended. I thought it was for driving so many guys crazy."

You couldn't hold the smile back any longer. A grin appears on your face and Izuki's face lights up.

"Pucker up." He says and leans closer to you. Your eyes shut and he takes your chin in between his index finger and thumb.

He gives you a soft and gentle kiss on the lips.

"The girl I love... Is you." He says.

"Oh... Really?" Your eyes shift around the room awkwardly. "Because the guy I love... He's cute and he has the nicest eyes. He makes terrible puns, he plays basketball and I happen to find him extremely sexy." You say. Izuki's face falls and he looks at the floor.

"It's you, cutie-kun." You lean forward and kiss him again. "I. Love. You."

Izuki smiles and interlaces yours and his fingers.

"I'M CRYING!" Your best friend exclaims from behind one of the book shelves. She pops up and wipes away her tears. "A NEW POWER COUPLE HAS RISEN AN-"

"Shh! This is a library!" The librarian hisses. You and Izuki giggle quietly.

"Be my valentine? I specifically practiced those pick up puns for valentines day." He says.

"If I have to." You grin and peck him again.
