The Courage From His Love

"What is your biggest fear?"

What was your biggest fear?

Easy answer: The water.

You used to be a competitive swimmer, the best in the school, actually. You competed in all of the competitions the school was a part of and always came out on top. You were naturally gifted in the water. It was like walking to other people, it was something you did naturally and without thinking.

Until one terrible day. It was after school and you were training in the school's pool facility swimming laps. You had been in the water longer than usual and your legs were awfully tired.

All you could remember from that day was your mind drifting off to something else. You were prone to panic attacks and had them at random moments. This was one of them. You don't remember how or why, but you fell victim to an intense panic attack. You trashed around in the water and found yourself drowning. You had completely lost your breath and you were sure you were going to die.

Your boyfriend Kuroko Tetsuya showed up at the perfect moment. If he had been seconds later you would be dead. He instantly jumped into the water without any hesitation and saved you, dragging you out of the water and giving you CPR.

The teacher stares down at you as he waits impatiently for a response. He had asked what your biggest fear was and you suddenly couldn't find your voice.

Kuroko gazes worriedly at your nervous face from the seat beside you.

You open your mouth to say something, when the bell rings. You let out a massive sigh and Kuroko interlocks his fingers with yours. You quickly felt at ease with your boyfriends hand in yours.

He was the silent and invisible type. You knew he supported you without having to hear him say it. Kuroko has been there for you through thick and thin. You're always at every single one of his basketball games and almost every training session. He went to all of your swimming competitions and hung out with you during every one of your practices.

You two are so good for each other.

Together you walk out of the classroom and down the hall to the next class.

"I think I want to go to the pool after school... No. Never mind." You begin to suggest but then regret it and change your mind. Kuroko looks at you with concern.

"I'm here for you no matter what you decide to you." He nods and you smile in appreciation. You were extremely lucky to have Kuroko.

"Thank you."

After the day of the incident you could never bring yourself to go back into the water. You were terrified of what might happen as soon as you got into the pool.

"No. Tetsu, I think I want to go in the water." You turn to your boyfriend during class after a long mental debate.

He nods and that's all he needed to do to show his support for you.

He rests his hand over your clenched fist in your lap.

"You're sure about this?" Kuroko asks as he holds your hand. You nod. He didn't want to encourage or discourage you too much, because he knew exactly how terrified you were.

"You ready?" Kuroko stands in the water. You are sitting on the edge and Kuroko's hands are placed on your waist, reading to bring you in when you said it was okay.

You take a deep breath and dangle your feet into the water.

Memories from the day you almost died come rushing back and your feet are immediately pulled from the water.

"I'm sorry I'm making this into such a big deal, Tetsu. You can go if you want." You say.

"What are you talking about, Y/N? You aren't making this into a big deal at all. I could walk out the door right now but I'm not going to, because I love you."

You stare at him in shock. This was the first time he had said I love you. Neither of you had mentioned the word to each other before now and you felt a sudden surge of strength and courage.

"I love you, Tetsu." You say and grin. He smiles back at you.

You ignore the feeling in the bottom of your stomach and put your feet in the water. Kuroko's holding your waist and he slowly lowers you in.

One minute later you are fully submerged in the water.

You grin and wrap your arms around Kuroko's neck while he holds you close to him.
"I would never have been able to do this without you." You smile gratefully. He returns your smile and gentle pushes you away.

"Now go and do what you love."

"You want me to do you?"

He pauses and stares at you. He was unsure how to answer, half of him wanted to say yes and the other half didn't know if you were joking.

You giggle at his facial expression and swim away.

You swim until you tap the wall, then come up for a breath, then freestyle back to Kuroko.

"I haven't done this in a while..." You stand straight in the water.

"You're still amazing."

You give him a quick peck.

You found something deep within yourself...
