The next day, Evangeline was woken up by Callie at one in the afternoon. "How long did I sleep?" The blonde asked Callie, sitting up. "Oh honey, that was not a sleep. That was a mini coma." Mariana interrupted, causing the sisters to laugh. "Evan!" They heard Lena call from downstairs. Evangeline started getting up and Callie followed. "It's okay Cal. I got it." Evan smiled at her. "Okay." She smiled back, giving her sister a fist bump as she left. It was kinda their thing.
"What's up, guys?" Evangeline asked, seeing Stef and Lena sitting in the dining room, looking mad. "Come sit, love." Stef gestured toward the chair across from her and Lena. "We need to talk about your meds."
"Oh yeah. Sorry, I forgot this morning I-"
"No." Lena cut her off. "Have you been selling your pills? I caught a girl at school with them. She said you gave them to her. Is that true, Evangeline?" She looked at Evan with scolding eyes. "No. I would never do that." The young girl was hurt. She'd only been going to the school for a week and people were blaming her on giving them drugs, which is, not to mention, illegal. Then she thought... Mariana. She could've given them to Lexi or Kelsey. Evan didn't think she'd tell them they were from her. She thought she was finally being nice and they were actually becoming good friends.
"All my pills are still in my bottle. You can check. Please, don't send me away." Evan got teary eyed. She had to remember to take her pills, she was being overly emotional, though she still didn't wanna leave their house. Evangeline liked Stef's momma bear personality, she liked Lena's care for children that aren't her own, she liked Brandon's musical talent and his kindness toward Jude, she liked Jesus' openness to her and how he, somehow, got her to open up, she liked Mariana's personality and her goofiness.
"Okay. Do you know if Callie would've done anything with your pills?" Stef asked the younger girl. "I'm not the one to ask, but all I can say is that I know my sister. She wouldn't do that." Evan stood up for Callie as an instinct. "Okay, Eve. We'll talk to Callie." Lena dismissed her.
As she was getting up, she saw Brandon walk out to the backyard. "Wait up!" He stopped. They both walked out to the backyard and sat on a brick wall, holding soil and plants. "So, what's up?" He asked her. "Are you here to ask me more about school?"
"No." Evan chuckled awkwardly. "Um... Mariana actually told me that you had a keyboard in the shed and I sing. I just wondered if we could do a song together or something. I've just been going through a lot and singing helps that. If you don't wanna, that's cool." That was true, but she also just wanted to get to know Brandon. Who knows, they could become friends. "That would be amazing. What were you thinking?" He stood up. "You don't seem like a classical type of girl. How about 7 years by Lucas Graham?"
"Sure." The pair started walking to the shed. "Fair warning though, this song reminds me of my mom, so I might get a little emotional." He chuckled a little. "It's okay. I get it. You ready?" He plugged his keyboard in and got his hands positioned. "Yup." Brandon started the opening melody while Evan got ready to sing. When she sang, it was like she was showing the person listening a completely different part of her.
(Please read. There will be some more storyline that is incorporated into the song❤️)
"Once I was seven years old. My momma told me, 'go make yourself some friends or you'll be lonely.' Once I was seven years old." This was one line that got her really emotional. It just reminded her of her mom and how she and her siblings would go to her for friend advice before she passed away.
"Once I was seven years old. I was a big, big world, but we thought we were bigger." This line reminded Evan of her, Callie, and Jude. They used to fight over who would get stuff because of their age and that's just who they were. "Pushin' each other to the limits we were learning quicker. By eleven smokin' herb and drinkin' burning liquor. Never rich so we were out to make that steady figure."
"Once I was eleven years old." This verse reminded Evan of when their mom would tell her and Callie that no boy would ever be a match for them. They needed a man. "My momma told me 'go get yourself a man or you'll be lonely.' Once I was eleven years old."
"I always had that dream, like the woman before me." This verse was probably the verse she related to the most in the entire song. Evan looked up at her mother as something she wanted to be. At this moment, she realized Brandon was in deep thought while still playing his keyboard, flawlessly. She wondered how he did it. "So, I started writin' songs, I started writin' stories. Somethin' about that glory just always seemed to bore me, cause only those I really love will ever really know me."
"Soon I'll be twenty years old. My story will be told." Evan rephrased the lyric, because she was still only 17. This part reminds her of who she wants to be. She wanted to be adopted by a loving, caring family and she wanted to be popular for this story of hers that she was still learning to accept. "Before the morning sun when life is lonely. Soon I'll be twenty years old. I'll only see my goals, I won't believe in failure, cause I'll know the smallest voices; they will make it major."
"I'll have my people with me. At least those in favor." This part definitely reminded her of the friends she wanted and the friendship she wanted with Brandon and Mariana and, sometimes, even Lexi. "And if we don't meet before I leave, I'd hope I'll see you later. Soon I'll be twenty years old. I'll be writin' 'bout everything I'm seeing before me. Soon I'll be twenty years old." The tempo of the keyboard slowed down and she had to sing a little weaker, as the song became more depressing.
"Soon we'll be thirty years old. Our songs have been sold." This verse gave me hope that she could create that band she had always wanted to have. "We've traveled around the world and we're still roaming. Soon we'll be thirty years old."
"I'm still learning about life," Oh, this verse. It really made her think about what she really wanted from life, that of which, she still didn't know. "I brought children for us. So, I can sing them all my songs and I can tell them stories. Most of my people with me, some are still out seeking glory. And some I had to leave behind, my friend, I'm still sorry."
"Soon I'll be sixty years old," This line would be hard to change up the lyrics, seeing as she really didn't have any parents. "My sister got sixty-one, 'Remember life, and then your life becomes a better one'. I made a girl so happy when I wrote a letter once. I hope my children come and visit once or twice a month."
"Soon I'll be sixty years old." She sang, putting all the power she could into her voice. "Will I think the world is cold, or will I have a lot of children who can warm me?"
"Soon I'll be sixty years old. Will I think the world is cold, or will I have a lot of children who can warm me? Soon I'll be sixty years old."
"Once I was seven years old, my momma told me 'go make yourself some friends or you'll be lonely." Evan got quieter, trying to hold in all her tears to finish of the song strong, as she'd never sang this song fully, without crying. "Once I was seven years old."
As soon as Evan finished, she burst into tears, failing at her attempt to not show Brandon how emotional she got when she sang songs that were meaningful to her. "Hey. It's okay." He left his keyboard and wrapped his arms around her torso, tightly, like a best friend would when their friends were hurt.
She could get used to this.
