Just Another Day

Chapter 5

Jason's POV (JASON)

"Oh, Jenny. How did this happen? Why did this happen?" I say, holding Jenny's hand.

After the nurses told us that Jenny was in a coma I said I was going to the bathroom. I really went and then I went to her room as soon as everybody else left. I drove in my own car.

"I love you, Jenny. Let's see. Is a coma like Sleeping Beauty? You are a sleeping beauty. Let's try it," I say. I bend over and kiss her straight on the lips. Nothing.

"What's going on? Why are you in a coma? I need you. I love you. Wake up, Jenny, please. Jenny? Jenny, please. I love you," I say. My voice starts to crack. "I love you but do you love me? I l-l-lo-lo-love y-y-you, J-j-j-Jenny."

Tears drip down my face and onto her cheeks. She's so smooth and beautiful and smart. She's a great writer and she has neat hand writing that's perfect. Perfect like her.

When I asked her to write the love story for me, I described the girl just like her. But, I put it in a way that she wouldn't understand. That she wouldn't understand that she's my dream girl.

Ever since she moved in she's been my dream girl. It breaks my heart that she doesn't love me. That I will never be her's. She's married and she's a mother.

A mother. I almost forgot Lily was here. I walk across the room and pick her up. I go back over to Jenny and sit down.

"You don't understand, do you?" I ask Jenny. "You're a mother. But I love you," I say and start crying again.

I don't try to let the tears spill over. They do. They build up like a wall, over my eyes and then the wall breaks. The dam is broken and it spills the water over onto my cheeks. The tears spill down my face.

My phone rings. I quickly wipe away my tears and answer the phone.

"Hello?" I say.

"Jason, where the hell are you?" Adam says over the phone.

"At the hospital. I'm visiting Jenny. I thought someone should keep an eye on her," I say.

"Okay. We're coming over, now, okay?" he says.

"Yeah, of course."

About 15 minutes later they're here.

"Jenny," Jerome says and takes my seat.

"Mitch?" Lilac says.

"Right here," Mitch responds.

Lilac has tears fall over her after she tries to keep them in, just like I did. She opens her arms and Mitch opens his. She starts sobbing.

"Lilac. Stop crying," Jerome says.

"Why?" she asks with sass in her voice.

"Because you're gonna make me cry. And I don't think Jenny would want any of us to cry," Jerome says flatly.

Adam and I exchange glances. He starts to fake cry.

"Stop it, Adam. I'll kill you," Jerome says.

"Fluffy!" Adam says.

I start to fake cry, too.

"Guys, please stop!" Jerome yells. Lily starts to cry.

"Jerome, look what you did!" Adam and I joke.

"Great. I'm going home. Lilac's the godmother, she can control Lily this time," Jerome says and storms out the door.
