Sapphire huffed, bored for the first time in a long time. Ruby still hasn't woken up and it's been about two hours. To Sapphire, it felt like almost an eternity.

She eventually found herself walking up the stairs, making her way to Ruby's room. She opened the door with her gemstone.

Surprisingly, the sound of the door opening didn't wake up Ruby.

"Heavy sleeper, huh," Sapphire whispered to herself.

She didn't really know why she decided to enter Ruby's room in the first place. Sapphire ended up exploring her room. What interested Sapphire the most were the pictures on Ruby's walls. She noticed most of these pictures were on Earth.

Sapphire has never been to Earth, though, Rose has described Earth many, many times. She was fascinated at Earth's calm and peaceful surroundings.

Sapphire noticed a picture of Ruby, Amethyst, and a human boy. Sapphire looked at the picture on Ruby's desk and noticed it was the same boy on the picture. Sapphire didn't know who he was, though he felt strangely familiar.

Sapphire stared at the photo a little while longer. Without thinking, she unpinned the photo from the wall and stared at it for a while.

Ruby woke up from her long nap. Her vision was blurred and her hair was a mess. She sat up, stretching until her eyes landed on Sapphire. She was still half asleep so it took her a while to figure out who it was.

"Ruby looks so carefree...and happy in this," Sapphire whispered to herself.

"Because I was," a familiar voice said from behind Sapphire. This startled Sapphire so much that she jumped into the air. For once, Sapphire thanked her floating powers. It was pretty useless to her.

Ruby sat up and grabbed Sapphire's wrist, bringing her back down to the ground.

"I thought you would know when I would wake up since you have future vision. Am I that unpredictable," Ruby joked.

"Yeah, kind of," Sapphire mumbled under her breath, quietly enough so Ruby was unable to hear her.

"We were on the beach that day, all three of us," Ruby began.

"Who is the human boy?" asked Sapphire.

"His name is Steven. He isn't really a human boy. I mean...h-he is, but he was also half gem," Ruby explained.

"So, he's a hybrid?" Sapphire was extremely confused. She wondered how he even functioned or how he was made, but didn't have the courage to ask.

"Yes, basically." There was a long silence.

"Was he important to you?" Sapphire questioned. There was a small silence before Ruby could answer the question.

Ruby replied, "very." It came out in a whisper which was loud enough for Sapphire to hear.

"What happened to him?"

Ruby gulped at the question as she tried to fight back the sudden rush of tears that filled her eyes. "He...died."

"Oh, I should've never asked that...I'm so--"

"It's fine, don't apologize for something that wasn't your fault," Ruby blinked away the tears in her eyes and faked a smile. It was a rinse and repeat routine for Ruby.

Ruby sat down on her bed, Sapphire trailing behind.

Sapphire needed to change the subject fast. She didn't want to see Ruby depressed.

"Well, you know how you look so carefree and happy in your pictures? How come you seem so...different than how you were before," asked Sapphire.

"You're really curious for a Sapphire. The reason behind that is...well, Earth. Earth was a place where you were free. No Diamonds to tell you what to do, no Agates to bark orders at you. Just a place where you could express who you were...and nobody gets mad at you for it. I'm don't act differently than how I used to, I just pretend to be different to follow these stupid rules," admitted Ruby.

Sapphire's eye widened in surprise. Of course, Ruby didn't notice since her eye was hidden.

Sapphire sighed dreamingly, "Earth sounds nice. I'm so sick of being seen as the weak gem, as the important gem. And why? Because my powers are useful to the Diamonds. Why do I have to be seen as weak? The one who has to be protected? I can fight for myself, I know I can. It just...makes me feel weak, you know?"

Ruby tilted her head in confusion. "Okay, but if you want to fight for yourself, then why did you decided to own me? If you haven't noticed, I don't just work as your servant but as a guard as well," Ruby asked, getting out of her bed and walking towards Sapphire.

"The truth is, I only wanted a Ruby guard because of how lonely I get. Most of my friends are always busy. I just wanted...a friend. Yes, a friend just to be able to talk to and be able to be with most of the time," explained Sapphire.

A small smile appeared on Ruby's face. "So basically, you choose to own me so you could get to know me, to be friends? Well then, let's be friends" Ruby held her hand out to Sapphire. Her smile grew.

Sapphire looked at her hand, then at Ruby. Sapphire caught herself staring for a while. She was sure she at least had a small blush on her face. She shook Ruby's hand but didn't feel like letting go of it.

"You know how you said you are seen as the weak gem?" Ruby asked Sapphire. Sapphire hummed a response.

"Well, I'm kind of the same...sort of. People expect so much from me because I need to be ready to protect and serve an important gem, yet...they tell me I'm nothing but another worthless Ruby," Ruby sighed, looking down at her gem embedded hand.
"I try to not let their words get to me, but sometimes it's just too much for me to handle."

"You really shouldn't them get to you. You are way more than just a Ruby," Sapphire placed a hand on Ruby's cheek, "you're my Ruby."

Ruby covered her now dark red face with her hand, "Ugh, you flatter me too much." She gripped her headband and pulled it over her eyes.

Sapphire laughed, "it's so weird. It's like we are complete opposites yet we have so much in common...at least I think we do. My future vision sees us talking to each other a lot later on."

Ruby put her headband back in place.

"Well Sapphire, I enjoy talking to you. You're easy to talk to and even if I don't know you that well, I feel like I can talk to you about anything," Ruby placed a hand on Sapphire's by accident. When she noticed she quickly pulled her hand back.

"I'm sorry, I-I didn't mean to hold your hand. I-I m-mean...it's not that I d-don't w-want to," Ruby panicked. Sapphire started laughing.

"You need to relax. I'm okay with you holding my hand." Sapphire then took Ruby's hand again. "You're hands are rough, yet soft and protective. I like how they feel," Sapphire smiled, blushing a bit herself.

Ruby laughed a bit, "well it's my job to protect you, isn't it? Even if it is my job, I want to keep you safe."

Sapphire smiled, "you're too sweet. Anyways, I have to meet up with Rose and Pearl since they want to talk to me." Sapphire stood up from the bed and brushed off her dress.

"I'll be back soon, feel free to do what you want as long as you stay out of trouble."

"Alrighty then. I think I'll catch up with Amethyst for a bit. You don't have to worry about me getting into any trouble."

Sapphire nodded, leaving Ruby's room.

She walked outside of her sanctuary and hopped onto the nearest warp pad. With a beam of light that shot into the sky, she teleported to the closest destination of Rose's sanctuary. She started walking through the crowd of gems who were getting on and off of warp pads.

Though, Sapphire was in a daze. She couldn't get Ruby out of her mind at all, no matter how hard she tried to think of something else.

After all, they literally spent almost an hour talking while flirting a bit here and there.

She sighed and closed her eye. She then bumped into something or someone.

She opened her eye to meet a certain huge figure. The only thing she saw was her nose which was in the shape of a gem.

A Jasper gem to be exact.
