Jasper was so close to kissing Sapphire, though that wasn't who Sapphire saw in front of her.
She saw Ruby.
The background was black and the gem in front of her was Ruby, not Jasper. Sapphire's face got closer to Ruby's, keeping her eye on her lips. Sapphire was craving, aching to taste her lips once more. Though, one thing was terribly wrong. The background wasn't black and the person in front of Sapphire wasn't Ruby. Yet, that's who and what she saw. She couldn't get the image out of her head.
"Oh, Ruby," Sapphire whispered.
It took her a moment to realize what she had just said, but as soon as she did, she gasped and panicked. Ruby disappeared and the background turned back into the spire. She gulped when she saw a wide-eyed Jasper. Her surprised expression quickly turned to an annoyed look on her face. She stood up straight took make herself look intimidating.
And, oh, did it work.
"W-wait!" Sapphire released a nervous chuckle. "I d-didn't m-mean to s-say that now..."
Sapphire got a chill down her spine. Her body trembled and sweat trickled down her face.
"Are you serious? You were thinking of that dumb, defective Ruby when you have an opportunity to be with the perfect Quartz soldier," Jasper growled, her voice hoarse yet deep.
Anger replaced Sapphire's nervous emotion. She balled up her fists.
"Ruby isn't just another dumb Ruby. She's my Ruby! So what if you're the perfect Quartz? Ruby isn't! That's what makes her so amazing!" Sapphire blurted out, not thinking about what she said. "I can't control how I feel about her. I'm sorry Jasper, but I...I don't feel the same way."
Jasper clenched her fists, her lips curving into a deranged smirk. She started walked closer to Sapphire. She backed away, slamming into the wall near the door. Sapphire slid her hand across the wall, trying to find the Diamond hand lock screen.
"I bet you're just as defective as her!" Jasper rose up her hand and swung it towards Sapphire.
She closed her eye and trembled in fear, knowing she won't be quick enough to move out of the way. She could've sworn she heard the door open. After a moment, she started hearing grunting that sounded a lot like Ruby's voice. Realizing she still hasn't been hurt, she opened her eye to see Ruby keeping Jasper's arm away from Sapphire.
"Ruby..." Sapphire whispered, surprised.
"Sapphire, run!" Ruby shouted.
Jasper grabbed Ruby's hand, lifting her and taking her by surprise. With all of Jasper's strength, she threw her across the spire. Ruby hit the wall and dropped down to the floor. She groaned in pain.
"Ruby!" Sapphire shouted.
Sapphire used her quick speed. She ran over to Ruby, grabbed her wrist and dragged her out of the spire. Sapphire ran as quickly as she could, not worrying about where she was going.
"Get back here!" Sapphire heard Jasper's intense voice echo through the air.
Once Sapphire saw that they were alone and Jasper was nowhere in sight, she let go of Ruby. She felt a tug at her wrist and was soon met with Ruby's burning eyes.
"What did I tell you?!" Ruby shouted.
"I...um," Sapphire froze up, not knowing what to say.
"I told you not to go, and yet you still went anyways! Now because of you, we are both in danger and we have no way to get out of here alive," she raged.
