The knock on the door stopped. Sapphire stood up from the floor and started walking towards the door. Ruby cursed under her breath as Sapphire stood up from the floor to open the door. Ruby followed her, getting really close to Sapphire. Before Sapphire could open the door, she felt strong arms around her waist. Before she could realize what was happening, she felt herself being pulled closer and tighter to warmth.
"Ruby..." she mumbled.
She felt Ruby nuzzle her face against her neck, pulling Sapphire even closer to her.
"I love you," Ruby whispered into the crook of Sapphire's neck.
Sapphire shivered, not knowing if it was Ruby's sweet voice or feeling her breath against her neck. Maybe both. She felt bad. She didn't want to leave Ruby's embrace nor her presence.
"You know, I finally understand why my future vision hasn't been working well, especially around you. Love. Love is unpredictable. No wonder why it never worked properly," Sapphire paused to smile.
Sapphire placing her hands on Ruby's hands. "What I'm trying to say is I love you too...I want to stay here...with you," Sapphire mumbled, so quietly, Ruby almost didn't hear her.
Before Ruby could respond there was another knock on the door.
"Then, stay here," Ruby suggested.
Sapphire shook her head. "Jasper is already here. I can't just flake out on her," Sapphire said.
She turned around causing Ruby to let go of her, but to Ruby's surprise, Sapphire slipped her arms around her neck and pulled her closer.
"But, she can wait," Sapphire said.
She looked into Ruby's eyes as she slowly leaned in. Before their lips could touch, there was an intense knock at the door. This caused both Ruby and Sapphire to jump, also causing Ruby to let go of Sapphire.
Sapphire looked back at Ruby, sympathetically.
"I have to go."
"No, you don't," Ruby mumbled.
"Excuse me?" Sapphire was taken back by Ruby's attitude.
"You heard me! You don't have to go. You're choosing to go," Ruby clarified.
"So what if I'm choosing to go? Why are you making this such a big deal?" Sapphire asked with a hint of sassiness in her voice.
"If you say one wrong thing, she'll shatter you without hesitation!" Ruby exclaimed. She took a deep breath, calming herself down.
"Look, Sapphire, I'm scared that you're going to get hurt. I might lose you and I don't want that to happen. I'm so sick of hearing you make excuses just to talk to her," Ruby said, almost in a whisper.
She walked closer to Sapphire and brought her into another tight hug.
"I-I need you..." Ruby whispered, sending another chill down Sapphire's back.
Sapphire cupped the side of Ruby's face and gently smiled. "I know you do. I need you too, but I'll get home safe. Once I come back, we'll go do something fun. I promise. Just you and me. Ruby, I just want you to know that I really do love you back, but I can't abandon Jasper like that. I have to go," Sapphire explained
Ruby sighed, slowly removing her arms away from Sapphire's body. Her lip quivered. Her anger was taking over, but so was her sadness. She trembled, not knowing whether to punch a wall or cry. She wasn't going to let her emotions overcome her. Her lips curved into a smile. Not like the smile was real.
