Ruby gasped as soon as she heard a crash coming from downstairs.

"Sapphire!" Ruby whispered-yelled.

She swiftly flew (not literally) down the stairs and stopped in front of Sapphire's now disintegrating door. Ruby look around the room, not expecting to see what she was looking at.

Books, pictures, a Diamond communicator device and tons of other Sapphire's personal things were thrown around Sapphire's room. Her room was disappearing. What confused Ruby was why her room was dissipating. Something shiny caught Ruby's attention. She started walking towards it. Her eyes widened when she noticed the shiny item. It wasn't just any shiny item, though.

Ruby stood there, wide-eyed and speechless at the single, slightly cracked blue stone staring straight at her. With trembling hands, Ruby reached for Sapphire's cracked gemstone. She carefully took her gemstone with both of her hands and caressed the gemstone gently. Ruby was filled with mixed emotions. Angry, depressed, confused. The list went on. Her emotions all turned into one.

Doubt.

A frown formed on her face. A frown of distress.

"I'm sorry. I-I couldn't protect you..." She whispered to the gemstone. She hugged the cracked gemstone as if it was Sapphire herself, which it was but she wasn't physical yet.

Ruby's eyes traveled from the shattered window to a rock with a note tied to it. She tilted her head and walked over to it. Hesitantly, she picked up the rock and detached the note. She opened it and her eyes scanned the paper, carefully reading across each sloppily written letter.

The note read, 'this is only the beginning.'

Ruby gripped the paper, causing it to become a bit crinkled at the corners. Slowly, the tip of the piece of paper started to burn and decay. The rest of the piece of paper slowly started turning black with a hint of red as it disintegrated in Ruby's fingers.

"Jasper," she growled as the remaining of the paper vanished.

Sapphire's gem cracked slightly more, causing more of her room to decay as well. More than half of Sapphire's room has disappeared. Ruby started taking steps back as the room disappeared right in front of her.

She started to panic.  "I-I need to get you to Rose!"

To keep Sapphire's gem safe, Ruby bubbled her gem and kept it cupped in her hands.

She darted towards the door and ran to the nearest warp pad. Ruby activated the warp pad and teleported away. The warp pad stopped and Ruby was now standing in a large crowd of gems. Gems were hustling and struggling to get on and off of warp pads. Ruby was small, yet quick so it was fairly easy for her to get through crowds. The real problem was trying to keep Sapphire's gem hidden so other gems won't jump to any conclusions. Ruby popped the bubble and kept Sapphire's gem closed in her hand.

She began to wiggle her way through the crowd. It must've been a busy day today for a lot of gems. Ruby's only struggle was trying to not bump into other gems. Gems get attitudes quick, and with Ruby's little anger problem, it was hard not to talk back to them. That was mainly the reason why Ruby used to get into a lot of fights, despite the fact she lost nearly half of them.

Once she was out of the crowd of gems, there was an aisle of sanctuaries. It was nearly empty with a couple of random gems leaving or entering their sanctuaries. Ruby took a quick peek at Sapphire's gem.

The crack has increased slightly. Despite the small change, it caused panic to rise inside of Ruby. She started running. She kept her eyes on the endless aisle of sanctuaries and facilities. Since her eyes weren't focused on what was in front of her, she ended up bumping into another person. This caused her to stumble back and drop Sapphire's gem. Ruby gasped as she watched Sapphire's gemstone roll to a dark orange foot.
