Ruby was running fast. She wasn't thinking. She wasn't looking back. Her vision was blurry due to overflowing tears. Once she seemed to be far enough from the sanctuary she stopped running. She was out of breath and tired.
Ruby decided to take this moment to try and think about something else. She watched as random gems were walking to their destinations.
Ruby calmed down a bit. Her tears started to diminish.
She soon started walking, shielding herself to avoid making eye contact with anyone else. She made sure to look up every once in a while to make sure she didn't bump into any gems.
Ruby knew she would probably be in trouble when she returned to Sapphire's sanctuary. Her thoughts still haven't vanished like she wanted them to, so she decided to walk for a little bit longer.
Ruby's eyes weren't red anymore and her vision was restored.
Sapphire flashed through her mind. Since it did, she couldn't stop thinking of her. Ruby started mumbling to herself. "Sapphire would most likely be mad or worried...or both. Sapphire wants me to come back, doesn't she? I'm pretty sure she does..." Ruby stopped walking and stayed still for while. She stared at the ground as a few more thoughts swarmed through her head. She knew what she had to do, as much as she didn't want to.
Ruby sighed, "I have to go back."
Slowly and hesitantly, she headed back to the sanctuary. Little did Ruby know, Sapphire was definitely waiting for her great arrival.

Ruby was so caught up in her thoughts she didn't even notice she arrived at the sanctuary.
"Hey Rubes, you doing alright?" Amethyst asked, snapping Ruby out of her thoughts.
"Huh. Oh, yeah...I-I'm fine," Ruby's voice quivered when she claimed that she was fine.
Amethyst noticed and knew it wasn't true, but she didn't want to put any more stress on her back. It was already bad enough as it was.
Ruby walked into the sanctuary, quietly. Instead of sadness, she felt unexplainable anger and irritation. Ruby found it odd how Sapphire wasn't around like she thought she would be.
It almost felt unpleasant to her. She thought Sapphire would be waiting for her, wondering if she was okay. The room was a bit chillier than usual and she noticed ice melting under her feet.
The place was half frozen and Ruby was burning up from her unexpressed anger, causing the ice beneath her feet to melt. Ruby huffed and silently went up to her room.
Once she got there, she sighed and slouched on the door. This relaxed her somewhat. She stayed like that for about a minute. The irritation and anger were gone.
Her relaxation was interrupted suddenly by her door opening out of nowhere. Ruby fell onto the floor with a small yelp. Her body slammed to the ground pretty hard sending a few sharp stabs of pain throughout her body.
She grunted, "this can't get any worse."
Ruby opened her eyes to meet Sapphire's emotionless face. Ruby started to blush and rapidly got on her feet.
"S-Sapphire...I'm sorry for running out like that! I didn't want--"
"You don't need to apologize. May I come in," asked Sapphire. Ruby was surprised with Sapphire's calm gesture.
"O-oh, yeah. Sure." Ruby stepped aside to let Sapphire in.
"I was worried about you. I just wanted to make sure everything was okay," mentioned Sapphire. Ruby didn't think she would mention anything.
